On the road breweries

I'd like to hear about some excellent places to stop for a cold one; be it a brewery, brew pub, or just an awesome bar, what are your favorite places to stop for a tasty brew?
Don't bother telling us about some place in Manhattan or downtown Chicago, the parking lot should be capable of handling an Airstream and TV, or be within walking distance of a good parking spot.
So here is my shameless plug for Lupulin Brewing in Sioux Falls, SD. It's within stones throw of a Cracker Barrel, their tasty brews were even tastier after a long day of travel.
Another place that comes to mind is New Glarus Brewing in New Glarus, WI.

Hi

So many breweries and so little time

The one that surprised me the most is the Deschutes Brewery tasting room in Roanoke VA. Why a surprise? Well, the brewery is in Bend OR. Normally you expect them to have a tasing room in the brewery parking lot.

Should you decide to visit, the parking is tight. It's in a downtown section that most certainly is not going to work if you are towing something. Even parking with the truck was a bit exciting.

Country Boy Brewing in Lexington KY. Excellent beers, really good food, and a great atmosphere. Theyíre a Harvest Host as well.

Denali Brewing

Near the funky little town of Talkeetna, where the Mayor is a cat, the Denali Brewing Company brews a very fine selection of IPAs, Kolschs and what not. Of particular interest is the home made Blueberry Mojito... the pizza oven and menu is excellent; not just an excuse to stay and drink more beer. Parking for RVs is ample out back.

Bob, sorry to say Deschutes has closed their tasting room recently. Roanoke and surrounding area have lots of breweryís. Some of our favorites are Afog (A few old goats), Old Salem Brewery, both have bourbon barrel aged beer. None of the breweries have enough room for you to bring your Airstream but you could leave it at Highland haven airstream park and drive to Roanoke .

In Springfield MO there is a brewery which participates in the Harvest Hosts program, and it's within walking distance of a nice car museum which also is a Harvest Host site. Another brewery is in downtown and serves a great selection of craft burgers.

All of this in a city on fabulous Route 66.

Hi

Oddly enough that's *exactly* what I've done on a number of occasions . Highland Haven is one of our favorite stops.

Sorry to hear they closed the tasting room.

We had a nice beer and a nice lunch Three Barrel Brewing Company in Del Norte, Colorado. Their Trashy Blonde Ale was delightful. Itís right off of Grand Avenue in Del Norte, and street parking was readily available on Grand Avenue or one of the side streets. Itís worth a stop if youíre driving through south central Colorado.

If we ever get back to “normal” and a visit to Vancouver is in your plans:

In Greater Vancouver we have a excessive amount of breweries.

https://vancouverbrewerytours.com/breweries/

This tour would be very helpful to get a good taste of a few of the local breweries. There is a tendency towards hoppy brews which I really enjoy but you can find every type of beer here.

Consider the town of Missoula, MT with at least three topnotch breweries within staggering distance of each other, if I remember correctly.
Sierra Nevada in Mills River NC is a big but classy (well, in beer terms, anyway) establishment, but the access road is tight and the lot is often full. Don't go without calling ahead. And, you have to drive on I26 THROUGH ASHEVILLE to get there, plus an equally congested section of NC 64.

We went to Sierra Nevada first of December. That place is cool itís huge, you can walk back and view the process from start to finish from a big cat walk. Such a clean interesting place. They also have a nice restaurant and patio out side for drinking. We are going to a campground near Asheville called Mama Gerties over Memorial Day and will make reservations for there as well as Wicked Weed Brewery downtown Asheville, such a fun area to spend some time in.

Sadder than the loss of the brewery, The Home Place closed itís doors a year or so ago.

Sorry for the slight derailment but since the area of Salem, VA came up.

How about Devils Backbone Brewery? We got in on a cancelation in the past. They have a nice campground maybe 1/2 with full hookups and 1/2 with no hookups. They have a great restaurant on site. Give yourself a couple of days the whole area is really pretty with lots of activities. Also there is lots of wineries and cider mills (Bold Rock is one). Itís in Roseland Va. just south of Shenandoah National Park.

Yea, but there are several RV parks in the area...as well as Biscuit Head for brunch/breakfast in Ashville! Well worth the trip to the area; Sierra Nevada is a great brewery.

Hi

There are indeed a lot of places that have gone under or are still deep in trouble. I suspect that pretty much everywhere we go there will be on or another "old friend" restaurant missing.
