I think Oxford, at one time, eliminated the Oxford comma then brought it back.

My favorite reference is The Chicago Manual of Style. They left nothing out.

Then there’s the joke about a panda who walks into a bar.

He eats shoots and leaves.

Or maybe…

He eats, shoots, and leaves.

I've seen the importance of comma usage demonstrated when comparing these two sentences:

1. Let's eat, grandma!
2. Let's eat grandma!

I'm personally a fan of the Oxford comma. It was taught to me as proper grammar.

Did it occur to anyone that not all entries are the result of keyboard use? Have you ever tried voice-to-text and encountered all the issues that couple that method with auto correct and auto complete using AI code? Making a correction or reversing to rewrite a section is quite tasking.

Love grandma!

Have you eaten Grandma?

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

At my last Dr. visit he told me not to eat anything fatty. I said like bacon or brisket? He said no, don't eat anything, fatty...

spelling

I don’t claim to be a grammar or spelling expert. I make plenty of grammatical and spelling errors. However, there are some common errors on these forums and others that seem to appear on a regular basis. I thought I’d highlight a few of those common errors, and I’d love to hear about others that I may have missed.

An enquiry was made in another thread about a “power chord”. It was quickly noted that a power chord is used when playing a guitar, while a power cord supplies electricity to your Airstream.

The most common error that I see here is axle vs. axel. Airstreamers are often concerned about their axles. Figure skaters are concerned with axels.

When comparing two similar words, it’s important to note that “versus” and “verse” are not the same word. They have different pronunciation and different meaning.

My trailer has electric brakes. It does not have electric breaks. I hope nothing breaks in my brakes. That could be catastrophic!

The word “lose” loses the original meeting when you add an “o”. It’d hate to lose a lug nut because it was too loose on the wheel stud.

I’m sure there are many other errors that can be added to this short list.

I’m not calling anyone out or making fun at anyone’s expense. I’m just pointing out a few common errors that we all see every day.

I’ll be checking on my Airstream this weekend. I think the breaks on my front axel are beginning to loose their effectiveness. It seems to be soft when I press the break peddle.

Have fun!

Excellent. Love it!! Actually I have been planing to right or is it rite or write something like dis. You did a grade job! Hitting the write words.

I cam from Germany at age 10 I am now (75) and the spelling mistakes and poor writing I see really bothers me but I can't correct everything and I make mistakes to or is it two or too???? Always had trouble with tough and thought and trough and through etc .

English just has weird or is it wierd spelling of words. wolf146

I thought it was the American language and the King's English. We don't have lorries, lifts, flats (excluding tires), tyres, crisps, caravans or bog rolls. We have trucks, elevators, apartments, tires, potato chips, travel trailers and toilet tissue rolls.
