The Theory of Finite Intelligence has been debunked. Scientists now believe that intelligence is only limited by the quantity of non-intelligence. Furthermore, the two quantities must be in balance.
Explains the current state of political discourse in the US.

I'd heard of the Theory of Finite Happiness before, but not the Theory of Finite Intelligence. The Theory of Finite Happiness is empirically proven by the mere existence of the "good old days." People were happier in the good old days because there were fewer people in the world to share the limited amount of happiness.

I just returned from a nice camping trip to the Columbia River staying at the Boardman RV Marina Park, which is outstanding. Huge sites with expansive green lawns. There was a hiking trail along the river and it one point it had a plaque designating where Lewis & Clarke had camped in 1805. The area was very rough and I wondered why they hadn't stayed at the beautiful RV park just a bit further down the river.
Cheers,
John

That's all right, because light does not really exist.
Einstein's Theory of Relativity includes a phenomenon called "time dilation." As one gets closer to the speed of light, time slows down. An object moving exactly at the speed of light does not experience the passage of time at all.
So, since light moves at the speed of light by definition, light does not experience the passage of time. From the moment a photon of light is created (say in our sun) to the moment it is destroyed (say on our retina) is all the same moment to the photon even if it's longer for us.
Any object that is destroyed at the very instant it is created does not exist for even an instant. Therefore light does not exist.

I'm confused........
Can you consider someone who makes considerably less than you, richer than you? I'm not talking richness of life, friends or family, but spending habits.
My coworker smokes. drinks and gambles on lotteries and complains about his lot in life, yet I consider him richer than myself.
I like this thread. Thank you all for posting.

As I sit in my living room listening to More Chuck Berry, I wonder how one can play a guitar like ringing a bell?

Spending does not make you rich. Spending makes you poor. Investing makes you rich, and your coworker's spending is not investing. In olden times he would be called a spendthrift, or even a wastrel.
Anyway, there was once a French author and philosopher named Voltaire. Most of us have heard of him from being forced to read his novel "Candide" in school. Voltaire had a couple of things to say on the subject of guys like your coworker. These two statements of Voltaire's were made at different times in different contexts, but naturally go together:
(1) There are some vices worth shortening your life to enjoy.
(2) Every man is entitled to choose his own vices.

Regarding the lottery...
Statistically, your odds of winning are almost exactly the same whether or not you play.

Almost. There is a very small difference between one in eighty million and zero in eighty million, but all it takes is one.
That said, I don't play the lottery. As the saying doesn't go, "You can't lose if you don't play."

Humanity, though it claims to gravitate to the sensical, tends to embrace the non-sensical.

Last August a man walks up to a booky in England and thinks about placing a pound bet on Leicester at 5000-1 odds and for some nonsensical reason ups the bet to a fiver ($7.23 US). That man is now 25,000 pounds sterling (36,170 US) richer. What would make the man, knowing in his mind at that time, that he was already throwing away 1 pound, decide to throw away a fiver? 5000-1 odds; even the worst team in the NFL has only a 200-1 odds at winning the Superbowl.
Congrats Leicester!
Cheers
Tony

Because he didn't have ten?
I imagine it was for any or all of the same reasons that people go all-in in Texas Hold'em or double-down in blackjack.

If you are truly looking for an explanation, he means the person makes it look easy.
