My new Forums
So.... we made a tuff decision to sell our Airstream and buy an SOB. I know, I know..trust me I know...
The Brand is Open Range (337RLS) and without getting to deeply into why, I thought I would share one good laugh with you.
I am usually up pretty early and the Airforums is where I start my day with a good cup of coffee. Send a few pm's to folks I know are also up, share laughs, and get a kick start to the morning.
At the bottom of the forums is a list of folks on line when you are. Just wanted to show you a comparison of the Open Range forums this morning to the Airforums.
Looks like I will still be lurking around these "hallowed virtual halls" to have company in the a.m.

that's a brave move.. But, you can always buy some silver paint and put a few rivets here and there.
...and remember, you can check out, but you can never leave...

Well, at least that new thang is a kind of silver grey. If you come to the rally I have already bought several rolls of tin foil.
Another good thing is that you canit park me in the boonies at the vintage rally

Hopefully you & Skye will continue to join in the fun at the Christmas rally??

Chuck will probably need to take that monster to Blanco Settlement anyway (pull-throughs with full hookups!) and then no one will know he's a traitor.. er... SOB owner.

To all our good friends that we have met while Streamin. You are the reason we love camping. Your responses on here make us chuckle and wish we were all together somewhere. And we have not sold ol Bud Lite (new name) just yet, although it will be actively attempted soon.
Right now we are prepping for a long road trip. (-;
Some observations on the change in trailers.
The extra room is awesome.
The slides demand careful positioning in the sites to avoid posts, trees, etc..
Gas mileage suffers GREATLY.
I definitely FEEL crosswinds and trucks..
Not sure that if you have never towed a box trailer, you fully realise just how aerodynamic the AS is. Major difference.
As long as big grey boxes can come to non rally rallys we will see you soon. See you all soon.

casa3805...I hear ya! We too made the jump, but to a MH and have to absolutely say this is the best forum hands down. I still lurk everyday, mostly because of the wonderful personalities on this forum that I haven't found elsewhere. I like to laugh and there is always someone here to make me get a chuckle or two everyday.
On all of our travels since we sold our AS, we still are on the lookout for any AS's while traveling! We still seek out Airstreamers in parks and always have to say hi!...It does get in your blood and no matter what we own, we started as 'streamers and in our hearts will always be streamers!

Lets, see . . a triple slide with optional porch.
What's the measured pin weight once loaded?
Twin or triple 15K btu air conditioners?
Length of roof warranty?
One of the man camp lot specials from the overheated RV dealers around the Eagle Ford?
The sad part about most of Texas is that it is too darn hot so much of the year . . thus the appeal of these with big interior room. Hurricane evacuation (whether Katrina, Rita, or Ike) I found no one who was back in their S&B house in less than 18-mos. So look to an ONAN COMMERCIAL generator (heavier, but turns slower) as an upgrade, also. Big self-containment has some advantages.
I'll wager the lack of glass area [sq./ft. ratio], the view, is what you'll miss most.
But not the repairs.
OTOH, the upgrade threads on tires are just as lengthy (RV.net), but have the same kind of solution. And upgrading to MOR/ryde IS + discs is worth the investigation . . the leaf-sprung models have little to no suspension travel when traveling in our high velocity winds.
Folks arguing about 5'er "superior stability" have no real idea of what they're talking about (of course, they've also never driven a properly sorted conventional hitch). The devil is in the details.
Best of luck!!
.

Hey slowmover...Well, the Open Range JT337RLS is a bumper pull, not a 5'vr. No optional porch on this model. "Tounge" weight is 780# (unmeasured). 2 ac's, one 15k and a 12.5 in the bedroom. Full 2 year warranty. And the glass views improved considerably over the AS. I already have a generator but we don't boondock so...
All that said, we missed our Airstream as soon as we put it up for sale. We wanted more outside storage and interior space as we hit the road for longer and longer trips...but I see us back in a smaller AS in the future for the weekend fun!

Hi, Chuck. Glad it's as you describe.
John Barca's threads on RV.net (and posts) are your new best friends in re suspension, brakes, tires, shock retrofit and hitch. (JBarca). Our local winds are not your friend, thus the recommendation.
Enjoy!

Had no real idea how bad aluminitis really is until we got this severe separation anxiety. In the words of the Terminator "I'll be back..." you know how he says it right? Bach, not back...;-)

We had a great, white box trailer for 13 years, pulled it way over a hundred thousand miles, 48 states. Our 2 boys grew up in it. Only new trailer we 've ever had, it NEVER let us down. It got us to our beloved AS. A young guy with 5 kids bought it (bunk house). When he pulled out of our driveway, a big chunk of me went with it.
That shiny tube sitting in it's place got my mind off of it pretty quick.
