Missed her by THAT much!

We're headed out this weekend so I went down to Mr. Mod's shop to retrieve the AS today.
On the way home, I'm just getting reacclaimated to the TV and towing again since I haven't used either since our Oregon trip in early April.
About a 1/4 from the shop, a lady steps out in to the intersection against a red crossing signal. She and I enter the intersection at the same time which means we are VERY close to each other.
I stand on the horn and the brakes, naturally. I just missed her as she was running back to the curb.
I don't know how all the rubber stayed on the road, but it must have been a sight to see.

Sort of like, drifting...yeah, drifting with a 31 foot sled behind you.

Graceful, right?

In the backseat, is 3 year old, Johnny, who could only say 'Geez, Mommy! Take it easy!"

Anyhow, I'm sure she was late for whatever she was doing because I'm certain she had to go home to change her pants.

Either way, I'm sure tonight in her prayers, she'll be thanking God for the invention of the trailer brake. And my quick response and ability make a sideways trailer look like a dance.

It's been a time for near-misses! What is in the air?

Gad no one was hurt, and for quick reflexes.

Glad nobody was hurt. I don't know what it is, but people seem to be paying less and less attention to their surroundings lately.

Glad it wasn't a bad deal. It surely could have been. Look both ways before crossing! Drifting is not something you want to do with your Airstream very often

I don't know how she didn't see me. Big white truck, big shiny trailer, headlights on and it was a pretty busy intersection. Maybe she was blinded by the almighty Airstream.

By the way, does the 'points' system still count? She would have been a solid 2 points! Extra points if you hit her with the TT only.

Just kidding, yes, so glad no one was hurt and my son wasn't freaked out. It WAS a close call.

I can't tell you how many times I have asked that very same question. I worked as a firefighter/paramedic in my younger days. Every once in a while, someone would miss that 11' high, 30+' long, shiny red truck with oh.....two dozen or so flashing red lights, a couple of sirens, and air horns.

Maybe she heard a tiny voice saying "Walk into the light. walk into the light" LOL

Very glad there was a good outcome.

Here's a guy that was texting and almost ran into a bear!!!! Heads up people!

Wow! You have a 31 footer too. That's a big sled.

Was very careful driving FAN home today. Still am a bit nervous; drive 5 - 10 miles below the speed limit. Will try to find a place to pull over if I'm causing a jam-up.

All too often motorists are blamed in accidents with pedestrians. How many times are those pedestrians distracted by phones, texting, etc. and walk right out into traffic.

Frequently, I'm in San Francisco, driving a nimble car, but still having to make split-second moves to avoid distracted peds.

Thankfully, you were under control and saved this woman's life. I'd be willing to bet she doesn't realize how close she came to meeting her maker.

Yes, people today are distracted.....or crazy.....or zoned-out on illegal and/or Rx drugs.

I can relate. First tow, coming home from purchasing, lost, with missed turns & closed on-ramps from Interstate construction in South Chicago backstreets, passing a slow moving bus... only then do I see the intersection traffic signal has gone red... All stop from 40ish mph in a bus (still moving slowly) length with eight wheels howling at almost locking up... Bus driver merely nodded at me...

Good show Mrs. Mod for anticipating 'something' and being on the brake before the horn!

Mrs. Mod, glad everyone is OK. Be extra careful if you come to Washington State. Pedestrians rule here, crosswalk or no crosswalk. People will walk out into traffic talking on phones etc. Seattle is terrible. Good job keeping everything under control. I would have checked my pants too.

Hi Dan,
We've traveled to Oregon a few times and noticed they have a ped-right-of-way law too.

Thanks everyone for the kudos. I wasn't going so fast. I had my son in the truck after all. But I did have to stop it right quick!
I kinda felt bad for the lady too. Stepping out in the street is the kind of bonehead move I would make. If pulling over was easier, I probably would have gone back to see if she was ok.

Deduct one point if she was talking on a cell phone, for the distraction. You get zero points if she was texting, but you get an Attaboy for taking her out of the gene pool.

Two thumbs up for paying attention to your surroundings and being ready to react. You likely saved her life by staying alert.
