I live in eastern VA - and I have bought a trailer in Albuquerque and my present one from a seller in east Texas. I was happy with both purchases.
I think the important thing is to know what you are looking for, and how to talk with the seller. In both cases, i felt confident that we understood each other and the deal was made. My position was, if the trailer is as you described it, then i will pay your price. The next thing was to get assurance that the trailer wouldn't be sold while I was enroute. Both cases were handled as if they were between friends.
One advantage was that I used the classified service here. I've bought and sold two trailers using the Forums classifieds, plus I just bought a truck here.
But you must be an informed buyer. If you are inexperienced, you would be better off buying from a dealer where you can expect some support.
Good luck. Pat
