kayak/canoe destinations

We just bought a tow vehicle that is going to allow us to take our kayaks with us camping. We have 14.5 ft necky Manitou kayaks. Looking for recommendations on the East coast for some flat water paddling and camping. We're not looking for overnight paddle trips, but a place to park the Airstream on a lake and paddle for a few days. What are your favorite places for a July vacation to paddle.

How hot is it going to be in Florida in July? They both sound like great suggestions for a fall trip.

Florida has many wonderful State maintained kayak trails. I live near the Little Manatee River which is one of the trails. This river flows into Tampa Bay into another State maintained trail at Cockroach Bay. (No, there are no cockroaches). These are wonderful kayaking trails and you could camp at E.G. Simons County Park on Tampa Bay or Alafia River State Park at the head of the Little Manatee River trail. Check out all the Florida state maintained kayak trails.

Our favorite is Seven Points COE on Raystown Lake. We also kayak at Elk Neck, Bald Eagle and Delaware Seashore State Parks. It's probably too close to you, but Codorus SP is good for a weekend.

It's going to be very hot and humid in the south and southeast in July, so unless you are very heat tolerant I would stay farther north, but a place that immediately comes to mind in cooler temps is Blythe Island Regional Park near Brunswick, GA.

You could walk your canoe or kayak to the inlets next to the campground, and off you would go.

It's a beautiful place, as are any of the LowCountry state parks on the barrier islands, all of which would be eminently suitable for what you are looking to do.

The best we've kayaked on the east is the Adirondacks. Hundreds of small lakes, islands etc. August and September are best in our opinion.

I'm a longtime kayaker who just recently bought an Airstream. I'm here to learn all I can about the AS but maybe I can help you out.

Go to https://paddling.com/launches/ (or just search on paddling.com launch sites map) then zoom in on the area you want and click on a red dot. Each dot is a launch site and each site will have details about it.

The Edisto River area south of Charleston SC. The beach campground of Edisto State park or James Island park near Charleston are great bases od operation.

There are books published just on this area.

Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Ok. Not east coast but worth the destination. Not too hot.

Kayak and fish Kentucky rivers

We too have kayaks and are going to try the Kentucky rivers for small mouth and large mouth bass this June. The Kentucky state website have a whole section on canoeing and kayaking the rivers with pictures and info in launch sites, river levels, fishing conditions, etc. we will be staying in a state park and then kayaking the rivers. Several outfitters in the area will take you and your vehicle to the end site, then transport you and your kayaks to a drop point for a fee. Saves on having to have two vehicles, one on each end of your float.
Good times.

East side of Georgian Bay off Lake Huron known as "Thirty Thousand Islands".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Thousand_Islands

"The “Thirty Thousand Islands”, is the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, and are located mainly along the east side of Georgian Bay, part of the Great Lakes."

We reserved a campsite this August on Rollins Pond in the Adirondacks to specifically kayak Rollins Pond and Fish Creek.

We've been to Rollins Pond, you are going to enjoy it.

Run over to Lake Placid and see where the 1980 Olympic Team won the gold and while there you can go to the top of the Olympic ski jump hill.
