Just found an advert for this in my work email spam folder

NASA Engineer Designs Cricket Trailer for Camping Trips - Mobile Magazine

Im unsure what innovation they are talking about here. It is surely one of the oddest looking campers Ive ever seen designed.

Some 'real' pictures here

Looks kinda like son-of-LEM -- used for all the Apollo landings.

Cool though. I like it.

We once rented a remodeled lake cabin from a Honeywell engineer who said he designed the remodel on his computer at work. I'd say the 'Cricket' turned out a lot better!

It looks like it has already been in a wreck, with some really crappy body work done.

Very strange. I would be curious what they want for one. Why wouldn't you opt for a teardrop trailer if you wanted something that small?

I followed the other link and saw that they want $14,000+ for it.

If anyone is interested in this I have a bridge...

I like the idea of pushing function over form to see what is possible. I think I was predisposed seeing the NASA engineer angle to think there was some element of innovation beyond the idea of: Lets see just how small of a space we can get you to function within.

There is an issue of Dwell magazine that had an article about a Japanese designer who took a mid-size Airstream and redesigned the interior to be empty other than a coffin like enclosure in the center which performed multiple functions. Ill see if I can find it.

Found it: http://www.dwell.com/articles/Hide-and-Sleep.html

The Cricket is interesting in that it is designed first and foremost for efficiency. With everything open, you could stand inside to get dressed - something you couldn't do in a teardrop. I'm claustrophobic, and could never sleep in a teardrop, but could do this. It's 1300# dry - quite commendable.
