When I had a VW Beetle in the 70’s, everybody waved or beeped.

'57 Chevy for sure! I learned to drive on one! Huge steering wheel, 3 speed on the column, vacuum wipers, straight six with enough room under the hood you could almost stand in inside to do a 10K tune up!

Iconic American vehicles

‘59 Chevrolet Biscayne (sp) with a slushy three (maybe) speed automatic transmission, a tired 283 V-8 and tail fins that actually lifted the weight off the rear tires at high speeds.

Power nothing, and the only thing that really worked right was the vacuum tube radio. Bench seats and a steel dashboard big enough you could spread a road map out on top of it.

The only good thing about that beast is that it was basically unkillable. It took a solid tee-bone hit and saved my life. The other car was totaled. I drove the beast home.
