I think I've lost my Airstream.
I have enjoyed using my trailer for 7 years and of course it has sentimental value. I have also just begun dabbling on the internet. During a routine investigation into the aquisition of a doorhandle I learned that my 1959 was a World Traveler. Of course the result being that I think I would be afraid to take it on the road knowing only 7 were made. So you see I have gained a very rare unit but I have lost the ability to use it in a carefree manor. I will probably put it up for sale if I could figure out what it is worth. I imagine I could find another model. Does anyone have any ideas.

What is a "World Traveler"??
Did Wally own it or something?
(BTW, Airstream should be in caps)

Hi, and welcome to the Forums! This is a great place to get all kinds of good information you won't find anywhere else!
Regarding your World Traveler, my advice would be to enjoy it! Although it may be a 'rare' model, it's not like the rare car world where the value of your trailer skyrockets based on the rarity. The value of your trailer is based soley on condition and demand for that model. A well-kept vintage unit of any model is worth more than a trashed rare trailer, the sole exceptions being the original Bambis. Caravels are now beginning to rise in value as the demand rises for them.
So, enjoy your trailer. Enjoy the fact that it's rare, and have a good time with it. Airstreams were built to enjoy, not to store in a museum and look at. The Vintage group of WBCCI holds regular rallys that are great fun to attend and see the trailers, but the folks who have them all use them too.
By the way, feel free to head to Illinois in June for the Forums Midwest Rally! We'd all love to meet you, and Kansas IS in the midwest y'know!
Roger

Sorry about the typo I'm not a very good typist, especially when it comes to the shift key. I meant no disrespect. I will be going through Illinois sometime this year I am originally from Pittsburgh, and frequently travel route 70. Thanks for the advice on enjoyment, I have certainly enjoyed it so far. But may be in the market for something smaller anyways. Selling is a ways off, but I will make sure the next owner intends to use it.

Look's like we're neighbors...you'd be welcome to join us VAC'rs at the 2004 Rocky Mountain Rally in Colorado Springs where several other "rare & unusual" trailers (and people!) will be congregating!

Jomichel - good to hear there's another World Traveler out there. The vintage club's website has an archive section, as you may have seen, and there are only exterior photos of a World Traveler shown. We would all love to see any interior pictures that you may have of this rare unit. With your permission, we could even get them posted for all to see. Because this is such a unique trailer, it would benefit the vintage group to historically record its layout and features. If you have been using your Airstream, by all means continue to do so. It was designed and built to be used and enjoyed.

I will have pictures soon, but I don't have a digital camera. I Will try to have them scanned. I would love to see my unit on that website. If anyone is interested I could draw a floor plan on Autocad also.

Enjoy it.
Things that sit in disuse are often worse off then something that is used often. Get it appraised and insure it for value then enjoy it and show it to the rest of us.

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't get it. I've always spelled Airstream as I just did, and no one ever told me it needs to be all caps. Did I miss something somewhere?

jomichel -
I would like to see a floor plan in AutoCad of your World Traveler. Let's see your stuff!

P.S.: Airstream or AIRSTREAM, It really doesn't matter much to me.

I believe when the thread was started it was "airstream" not "Airstream" in the title...maybe Roger confused his post in this thread with that other thread

flyfshr - My brother is using it at this moment, but will be bringing it to KS sometime soon so I can't measure it in detail right now. However wouldn't mind making a floor plan of another model. I will need all the dimensions preferably from only two perpendicular walls and the points where the radius of the trailer begin and\or end, and total interior length and width at floor level.

Hi Shari! My response would be "Huh????" While I certainly make enough faux pas on my own, and I appreciate that you might credit it to me, I'm afraid I can't take any credit for that one! I believe THAT particular post should be ascribed to Chas.

I started it. He has fixed it now, our new World Traveler friend.
Airstream should always begin with a capital "A"
BTW, welcome to the forum!
I need to do some research on this World Traveler model. Does it mean that it has actually been around the world or what? I always figured an Airstream that was on Wally's African Caravan would be the ultimate prize, especially the one Wally and his wife took the trip in.

'59 World Traveler
Enquiring minds want to know!
Here's a link to the VintageAirstream.com page on the '59 World Traveler 22'. It is said to be the "same as Caravanner, Falcon, Flying Cloud & Safari".

Thanks for the link,
So, they were specially built to do the caravan thing.
I would say they are pretty rare with what, seven built?
With the dual spares hanging off the rear bumper and quite possibly an unbalanced runnig gear I seriously doubt if there are many left.
