Hurricane Season 2021

It seems like a good time to start watching for hurricane conditions ripening IMO. From December:

https://weather.com/storms/hurricane...-csu-klotzbach

Mike's Weather Page is a good general resource for data: https://spaghettimodels.com/

In theory the Atlantic Hurricane Season starts in June: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_hurricane_season

Ocean temperatures are a good early warning sign usually -- maps and links are on the left edge of Mike's page:
https://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bi...t_nw3hem#image
https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/c...satlant.fc.gif

Last year's 2020 thread is an interesting read IMO: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f16...-a-208479.html

Tropical Storm Ana

Ana is well offshore and forecast to head NE.

. . . and is the only storm on the following 5-day outlook page:

Links, and more maps etc., are available on Mike's Weather Page linked in the first post.

It seems like we just ended last hurricane season. Not again!

May be an above-normal season according to NOAA, but not as bad as 2020:

NOAA is starting to track a storm developing off the East Coast: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5

This map should update in real time over the next few days:

Hi

So we have hurricanes and I'm *not* in any of their paths, sitting in the AS.... that's really weird

Not so fast, Bob, . . . that system is now an official storm, and is intensifying it appears.

"For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on newly formed Tropical Depression Two, located about a hundred miles east of the Outer Banks of North Carolina."

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/MIATWDAT.shtml
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at...start#contents

A fairly benign projected path, but "never say never" when it comes to Mother Nature IMO.

Bermuda is well to the south, but will the warm Gulf Stream steer the storm toward us in New England?

This combined model shows that kind of bend, but not to mainland North America . . . yet! . . .

I'm taking a leap of faith this year. Heading down to Ft. Myers in mid August. I've always avoided going south in the fall due to my fear of going down there and then having to bug out due to incoming storms. The only good thing is that the hurricanes are at least more predictable than our midwest tornados!

Southern Florida in the hottest, and most humid, part of summer?

Talk about testing the electrical grid infrastructure . . . . . . your surge protector may be needed again IMO.

Used to visit relatives near Orlando . . . summer? . . . no thanks!

Have fun "camping" inside your aluminum tent.

Peter, not taking the Airstream. I can't fight the attractiveness of finding a non stop flight there for just over $100 each way and the pleasure of a 2,200 sq ft Airbnb Key West style home with it's own salt water pool! Got a deal for a car at a discount. Total cost is less that driving 1,151 miles each way and finding a campground to stay at. Splitting the cost with a friend.

As much as I love my Airstream there are times where you can't beat the friendly skies.
