PS -- Here are a variety of "Ensemble" model tracks, some of which include more of Florida:

For some maps, there is a "Loop" button to see things in action.

It is the time of the year for more trains to be on the tracks:

Looks like the cone is creeping back towards the east coast of Florida compared to last night.
Whatever effect the Dominican Republic had on the storm is done. The Bahamas are low lying spits of land, so there won't be any reduction from them. Max sustained wind 75mph, barely a cat 1.
Moving NW at 16 mph.
Wait and see.

Hurricane? What hurricane?
Here's the area with radar overlay.
The only rain bands I could find are a few showers over the Bahamas.

Almost over?
Not if you're in Palm Beach, but then if you're in Palm Beach, you took the jet to your home in Jackson Hole.
TS Isaias, max wind 70.
The next storm marching across The Atlantic fell apart, so tropical depression 10 sits off the coast of Africa, but seems to be moving NW.

Good luck to all in Isaia's path. Looks like it's gonna be about the strength of Hanna that went in 45 miles South of us. My hope is that it weakens quickly and keeps moving so as not to dump too much rain in any one area.

11PM advisory has it making landfall very near us as a 75 mph (barely) Cat 1 about 8PM tomorrow. If that holds we will be fine. The earlier advisory had it about 20 miles offshore as it passed. Still time for it to jog further inland or back out. The tracks typically move back and forth as the storm gets closer.

Trailer is in a metal storage facility 5 miles inland. I forget the wind rating but it is over 100 mph if I recall correctly.

As of 5 AM, hurricane warning dropped, TS Warning in effect, predicted to pass by about 20 miles offshore. Still time for a landward wobble but looking like we dodged a bullet, or it dodged us.

I just looked at the 8 am cone and Isaias is downgraded to a TS.
The TD 10 off the coast of Africa went nowhere, and Invest 94 is predicted to loop to the right and never come close.
Jim Cantore is sad.
They'll be more, remember, Andrew was the first named storm of the year and occurred on August 24, 1992.

11:15 am Radar.
Here in Tampa, it's partly cloudy with maybe a 10 mph breeze in the tree tops.

A system near us in New England to watch over the next few days:

TS Josephine is expected to hook right and go out into The Atlantic, never becoming a hurricane.
Invest 95 will move away from the coast in the next few days, also head NE. (Although that's an odd place for a tropical storm to form)
It's encouraging that there's no new activity off the coast of Africa.
YET!

FYI there is a system in the eastern Atlantic which may bear watching IMO:

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5

"Environmental conditions are conducive for further development, and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next day or two while the system moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western portions of the tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent."

This one could be threat to the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the entire US eastern seaboard IMO.

Kind of related to the thread as you can see all the ship's locations, direction, speed and destinations among other info. It is interesting to see them change course to avoid certain weather events. Using the settings you can customize what types of vessels you want to track and by zooming in you can see the activity close up in a given area. Clicking on a vessel will open a page with lots of details and a photo of it if available. There are paid subscription options but the free version has everything a landlubber would ever need/want to know. I was amazed at the sheer number of vessels out there. Just yesterday there were far more in the open sea wheras today most have made port.

Thanks for that cool link, Brian.

Yes . . . amazing how many ships are out there! Before the Internet and global undersea cable infrastructure build-out, all ship communication was done by radio, and the local Mackay Radio station had a huge room with many radio operators talking with ships all over the world. One entire wall [roughly 40' long by 12' high] was a map of the world, with miniature ships in their last-known locations.

Thanks Peter, now I have something else to research. I remember back in the very early seventies I had a portable 9 volt Toshiba shortwave radio that I hooked up to a 50 foot wire antenna I stretched across my Mom's roof in Arizona and at night I would climb out my window onto the roof and listen to ship to shore transmissions through an Oakland, CA operator.

Had a short wave back then too. Magical listening. I imagine some of the radio buffs here did the same in their childhoods..

Simpler times back then, indeed. Have any music from that era for the OTRA or Guitar music threads?

Another updated track forecast is showing possible action for the Caribbean, Florida, and the East Coast, with the eye passing north of eastern Cuba by Monday ["120" hours from now -- 5x24=120]:
