How do you haul your bikes when towing?

These givens: full size bikes; towing a trailer so no bike rack on the truck; no interest in one of those disappearing end-of-trailer bike racks.

So, given that: how do you haul your bikes? In the Airstream? Standing up in the bed of the truck? Laying down on the bed? If you've created a rack in the bed of the truck, I'd be particularly interested in pix.

Thanks in advance.

standing up in the truck bed. I use these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They work well, the bikes stay in place and don't get scratched. A bit of a hassle to pack around the bikes though.

The last 10 years I've been using this 2 bike rack >
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f42...ml#post1406712
E-trailer at one time had a 3 bike rack of the same design.

What I like best about this rack is that it functions 3 ways to store bikes; in the trailer while towing, outside the trailer while camping, inside the garage while at home.

Front trailer hitch. Standard bike rack. Bikes get dirty but no other downside.

Yes and yes

One ebike on the Fiamma that came with this 27FB, one (my) ebike standing up in the bed, under the Leer cap. Since my ebike has a milk crate zip-tied to the rear carrier. i attach two short ratchet straps - one on each side - between the top of the milk crate and the tie-down bracket located on each side of the bed. The angles are right, and the groove in the bed keeps the (chubby) tire secure. The integrated Ford tailgate step makes coming and going easy. Still ample room for generator, fire pit, tools, chairs, rugs, ladder, etc.

Tried the front rack, DW doesn't like the view. Would have been my preference.

We use these Thule Insta-Gators - fit both mountain bikes in the truck bed along with a bunch of other stuff. We have a "short" bed and the bikes fit just fine...

Got rid of my full size bikes. Bought Dahon I7 folding bikes with carry bag. Fold them up and put them in the back seat of my Truck.

I've got a front receiver on my Ford F-150, which I put there to back precious trailers into their dark parking places. I've got a bike rack which fits into a 2" receiver, and it's nice to see the bikes are riding nicely up front when you're going down the road. When I pull with the Sprinter, on the lighter trailer, I just put them inside. My wheels don't come off so easily, like yours. I have and e-bike and Mrs Flyboy has a cruiser. Jerry

Inside the trailer, last in, first out, then we cable lock them to whatever is convenient and secure, cover with a tarp if needed for bad weather.

Hey Peter417, you left your wallet on rear bumper. Hope you didn't forget it when you drove off?

Mine goes inside the camper. I just lean it up against the front cushions where it won't roll anywhere. It's safe and dry there!

Do you have a cover to keep the bugs off? I have nightmares about having to do that after crossing a lake in the spring after dark.

That is my buddies wallet. I think on the next trip to this trailhead he left his wallet on the bumper for the whole 2 hour ride down to Eureka Springs. I could not believe it stayed. I think he is better about that now.
