Low of -35 C. overnight in Manitoba, Canada. We've had a couple of weeks of similar temps. Lots of wind as well.
Days are getting longer now and sun is warmer. Hydro and gas companies are smiling!

Sometimes I wonder why I ever left Upstate NY. I grew up in the Finger Lakes area which I think is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. When I read the posts here and see pictures like the ones that wheel interested posted I'm again reminded of the reason why I now live in the sunny Southwest.

Air temp in Chicago is a current toasty -10 degrees F, with wind chills of -30 degrees F.

Today's high air temp you ask? -3F!

-22*f in Iowa City... going for a high today of -10*... current wind-chill, -36*f up from -45*f last night.

After I'm done blowing snow today, I'm going to sit by the pool under the palm trees and have a drink. Yes, it's so cold, I'm delusional.

Wish I were there...

It was in the low teens last night in Southern Middle TN... Supposed to be in single digits tonight. We're in our airstream and haven't made it out of the bed (except for coffee). Got the electric blanket going...

Hubby decided to make reservations to return to Topsail Hill (Can opener locale) next week. Said he "...needed someplace warm to work on the airstream." I just think he's dodging the cold...LOL!

Southeastern Minnesota temp (Rochester) is a balmy -24 degrees. My four kids are home with school being cancelled. Add in the windchill, as we always do around here, and it feels like -51. I did actually manage to do some work on my Airstream yesterday. The insulation is out and with an electric spaceheater I achieved 37 degrees inside. That's shorts weather around here! Please note in the attached pic that my trailer has adopted a "snow beret" in honor of Wally.

Ditto to GR8DANE's Rochester temp. Minus 24 here this morning. This isn't especially cold or long but we'll have 96 hours below zero by the time this breaks friday afternoon. And then we'll be 30 above on Sunday. My bro in Tempe has seen temperature swings that broad too. I guess lutefisk only sets us apart.

Here's a pic out my back window at dawn. We always have open water on this bend of our little river. But the crystal fog over the open water is cool! Time to go skiing.

Great video Lloyd!!

Those brass monkeys are still frozen today, minus 40, but I think it would take a nuclear bomb scare to close down the schools up here. Even if the buses are cancelled, schools are all still open. But they keep all the kids inside all day long if it's too cold - like yesterday and today. The result is 2 very agitated boys with wayyy too much energy who come home after school.

Now, where's that box of Calgon...?
