Homemade RV
Saw this one at City of Rocks State park in New Mexico on our trip to California last month....
If you look carefully, you can see it's a Chevy van mated with with what I believe to be a late 80's Ford Escort top half mated to it.... Windshield, side windows and rear hatch windows are all in place....
There is even solar on the roof of the van (where the hood of the Ford Escort would have been!)

It's interesting the lengths that people sometimes go to - to make one piece of junk out of two. Although this one looks like it may be somewhat functionable.
I suppose he was wandering around between vehicles, among the weeds in his front yard and had this brainstorm....
Recycling has it's practical limits IMO.
Thanks for sharing the photo, I do like those "human interest" items.

I've known a lot of guys down through the years who are very innovative. Some achieved a resonable end to their innovations while others left much to be desired. I think the old boy who came up with the Van/Escort did a pretty fair job. I'd like to see the inside.

It's fun imaging whether the 'panorama car' has seats or a bed. Maybe the curtains suggest bed. CG doesn't matter when camping at what is clearly a celestial vortex.
Caravans in Europe get mighty interesting too -- I think this was my 2nd photo attachment at AIR Forums. The cruise cuddy top is nice but I dig the sunroom. Or is it a bath?

LOL! We all know you're secretly planning a skydome for the Globetrotter. I suggest a Vega.

Bob,
And 5,599 emails later look where you are. Right back to the worlds almost ugliest motor home . Life does go around in circles and unique travel accommodations continue to rear their ugly heads.

Bob, that earlier post was way before my time, this is the first time I've seen that photo.
It kind of makes my point. Looks like a garbage truck that couldn't quite swallow a small car...

Having grown up in the '60's in an area frequented by tourists we used to see a lot of home made rigs. Most were on Caddy or Buick frames. One that I still remember was called Noah's Ark. If memory serves it had seven layers of glass on the front counting the windshield. All were slanted back and there was a small setback at each window. Wish I had a photo. The front of the car remained including the front doors the back of the car body was cut away and replaced by the wooden camper body that over hung the car body kinda like a pickup camper. The top of the camper was rounded and it had a slight overhang in the back.

The best one I've ever seen was a VW bus mated with a the top half of a VW bug on the roof. It was actually quite cool looking. I find the weirdo looking and old beat up RVs much more interesting than any of the new, fancy rigs. It seems like they have more stories associated with them or something. Also, if anybody watched last season's great series "The Riches" there's also the possibility that the occupants might be Irish Travellers.

Speaking of VW's,
I recently saw a dark green VW bus towing a VW trailer painted the same. It was actually quite cute and eye-catching. The trailer had been fabricated by taking a second VW bus, chopping it down and shortening it. It was probably only 8 or 10 feet long. Kinda reminded me of a short Argosy....kinda.

Can you hijack a nyuk-nyuk thread?
I don't think so...

Ohh, BobbyW! Let Forums history record that your avatar when you posted above is a reduced version of Will Ferrell (not a fan...) on the "more cowbell" SNL sketch. I'm a fan of college radio and have enjoyed when they have featured "more cowbell" hours. Thanks for a rolling, deep, hearty guffaw!

Hey Bob,
How can I convince Amy to let me go on a trip to Ireland while she stays home? Thnk she would go for it? Maybe I can say that it would be to look at a new "One of a kind" Moho

Abbey Road anyone!
Steve, I think you need to built the perfect A/S TV! You could get a full size Ford or Chevy V-8 Van and weld another on top. Then cut out the roof and set it up like a doubledecker bus. Put in a skydeck area and have a party up there when camping out. Oh yeah, Paint it bright red and put advertising on it to help offset the cost of building it. Have A Coke! comes to mind! LOL... Ed

Ed,
What about Burma Shave advertising? Of course, I would prefer to use a mining dump truck for the lower vehicle, and a conversion bus for the top. That way we get height and style. It really doesn't matter. I wouldn't have it very long looking at my streak.

Steve, Now you've gone and done it!!! What is this stuff about a Silver Streak? IIRC those mining dumps have a really hard time going thru underpass openings and Tunnel entrances!!! LOL! Ed

Who needs to go though it when you can go over it with 10 foot tires.
