Home Remedies

After reading the thred ''Another Challenge'' I thought there should be a thred on home remedies. For a cold, no dairy products which causes mucus or flam. Chicken noodle soup for lunch or dinner. Hot tea with honey with a twist of lemon throughout the day helps............... Bananas is good for those dreadful leg cramps in the middle of the night................ I had back pain from the sciatic nerve. The solution was a simple touch your toes exercise. Make sure you slowly go down and touch your toes then slowly stand up. I was lucky to touch my shins at first. If this helps one person I'd be happy. The goal is to keep everyone healthy for another year of camping. Keep in mind I'm not a doctor but it works for me. If you have any remedies that has been past down the generations, or things that work for you please share. You never know...you may just help someone.

you forgot the choice of whiskey, brandy or bourbon in the hot tea mix. Peppermint schnapps is good for upset stomach and cough syrup as told by "old" pharmacist; not me.

I thought whiskey was for hypothermia which was carried by Saint Bernards in a mini keg. I'm not much of a drinker, but NiQuil knocks me out for sleep when having a cold. I was once at a hospital shivering from a high temperature. After swallowing 2 Advils the fever was gone in 5 minutes.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I think the tea, lemon, alcohol mix is know as a version of "hot toddy".
I have a book, "The Green Pharmacy" by James Duke,PhD. The book is 500+ pages. I don't think he is from the Dukes of Hazard. lol. It is all on herbal remedies.

A coincidence as I read this, there is a sidebar advertisement for Palmer College of Chiropractics.

Rum the universal mixer. It will fix darn near any problems and makes for great attitude adjustment. And just like home remedies no need to actually do any laboratory testing.

Aaron, What do you do with the mustard...eat or rub? Sounds like RUM is the cure-all for everything. I need the whole tea tree for my skin Maggie. Lol Positive attitude helps a lot.

Eat

The acetic acid (vinegar) triggers a reflex in the body to produce acetylcholine which is a muscle relaxer. Mustard also contains several minerals that help reduce cramping like selenium.

Rum works well for a lot of things as does Scotch.

Actually drinking more water helps leg cramps significantly - or that might seem to be the case because you jump up out of bed to use the bathroom so frequently that your legs just can't get cramped.

Paula (seriously though, dehydration is something we often don't really FEEL soon enough. If you work out today and have really sore muscles tomorrow - you didn't drink enough water during or after your workout! Go to bed thirsty and you can get leg cramps. As little as half a cup of water and they may well go away.)

I prefer 3:2 bourbon... About three fingers deep with two ice cubes.

A long time ago, an old guy told me how to make the perfect Hot Toddy-- 2 ozs Whiskey, 4 Oz hot water, slice of lemon, I tsp Honey.
Mix the Honey in the hot water until dissolved, add the slice of lemon, pour that out and drink the Whiskey Straight. After a few of these, he said, you will not even know why you made the hot toddies in the first place.
Enjoy and -- you are welcome :-)

I know this isn't Homeopathic remedies but for myself, I have used Fisherman's Friends Lozenges for the past 25 years to stop colds or sinus problems before they get a chance to start. I pop one in my mouth at bedtime and wake up refreshed and no cough or sinus pain.
