Don't have groundhogs in Minnesota.
We ate most of 'em.
Wolves got the rest.

I'm sorry, but despite the doin's in Pennsylvania, I fear that the worst of winter is not yet over. Our woodchuck, Tipton Talbot a distant country cousin of Punxatawny Phil, came out of his burrow here in Tipton Iowa and immediately froze to death in the minus 18*F wind chill. I regret that he neither lived long enough to see his shadow nor make it back to his burrow before the deep freeze took it's toll on him.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and we'll do our best to have him buried by July 4th if the ground ever thaws.
Please send money to me as a memorial in lieu of flowers or cards. I will put it all towards my trailer in memory of our dearly departed woodchuck, Tipton Talbot, God rest his little furry brown soul.
Roger
p.s. for those of you who can't live without knowing... here's the NOAA forecast for our area for tonight:
Quote:
MORNING LOW TEMPERATURES SUNDAY AND MONDAY ARE LIKELY TO RANGE FROM
10 BELOW TO 20 BELOW ZERO...ESPECIALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE
80. ISOLATED LOCATIONS NEAR HIGHWAY 20 COULD SEE TEMPERATURES
COLDER THAN 20 BELOW.
THE COMBINATION OF BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES AND A STEADY NORTHWEST
WIND...WILL PRODUCE DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS FOR MUCH OF THE
WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. LIFE THREATENING WIND CHILLS OF 30
BELOW OR EVEN COLDER ARE LIKELY FOR AREAS ALONG AND ESPECIALLY NORTH
OF INTERSTATE 80.
PEOPLE SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THIS PROLONGED STRETCH OF COLD
AND PLAN AHEAD. MAKE FREQUENT CHECKS ON THE ELDERLY...AND MAKE SURE
THEIR FURNACES ARE WORKING AND HEATING THE HOUSE PROPERLY. BE
PARTICULARLY CAREFUL WITH PORTABLE HEATERS...THERE IS DANGER OF FIRE
OR POISONOUS FUMES. PETS ARE ALSO SUSPECT TO THE EXTREME COLD. KEEP
PETS INDOORS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE...MAKE SURE
OUTDOOR PETS HAVE WARM DRY SHELTER...AND PROVIDE SUFFICIENT FOOD AND
FRESH UNFROZEN WATER.

Naaaa that is just a chilly day -20F = -28c - we have been hoovering -15c to -20c for the past 2 weeks so what is another 8 points just means you have to down a bit more wine and stuff some chocolate in your mouth to keep the cheeks moving while outside - good thing it does warm up a bit around lunch time.
Our Ground Hogs are tough up here - we are smart we don't bother coming out of the hole period! until the ground is thawed That way we don't get eaten by those crazy Iowans.....

Sad to hear of TT's passing. We are hunkered down in Iowa City waiting for the gear vendors to arrive. Guess we'll have to wait on the install. Stay warm!
