Let's keep it simple. According to the USGS, global anthropogenic CO2 emissions are in the range of 35 gigatons per year. To get a perspective on the size of that number, many people think that volcanoes are a major contributor to climate change and climate change deniers have often used that belief as one of their talking points. In fact, the USGS estimates that the total CO2 output from all volcanoes on earth, including those under the ocean, is in the range of .13 to .44 gigatons which is 80 to 270 times less than that produced by human activity. Combine those numbers with the data that show a direct correlation between increases in global temperatures and the beginning of the industrial revolution and common sense will suggest an answer that no climate change denial resource I've ever seen has been able to explain away.
Personally I hate FAKE MATH. I hope you can realize that 1 times 35 gigatons is 35 gigatons, that means volcanoes producing 1 times less CO2 would be producing none and if they were producing 80 times less they would be sucking 2,765 gigatons of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Well if you were right at least then we wouldn't have a problem with climate change from too much CO2.

Sorry, I don't get your point at all. Who said anything about 1 times 35 gigatons or sucking CO2 out of the atmosphere?

There's nothing wrong with the math; it's not fake. Here, I'll lay it out:

Human CO2 production = 35 gigatons (35,000,000,000 tons) per year
Volcanic output ranges from .13 gigatons (130,000,000 tons)
to .44 gigatons (440,000,000 tons) per year.

35,000,000,000 / 130,000,000 = 269.2 which I rounded to 270
35,000,000,000 / 440,000,000 = 79.5 rounded to 80

Perhaps my phrasing was confusing. If I had said that human CO2 production was 80 to 270 times more than volcanic CO2 output, rather than volcanic output being 80 to 270 times less than human production, would that have been clearer to you? Same numbers, same math, just a different way of stating the result. My apologies.

Yeah. all of something is all of it. The "1 *" is implied, as in x = 1*x. -80x is -80x, not 1/80th of x. Math generally rewards precision of expression.

The math itself is precise. It was my language that apparently was confusing, and I apologized for that. The result revealed by the math is valid.

Did you have another point?

Please "Be NICE" to one another! Politics and those view points are not for discussion here.

Our common theme is Airstream Trailers, Motorhomes and the things associated with those adventures.
