Finally got a chance to use the new Airstream

I had been away on business for a while and it was killing me to have a new camper I had never slept in. Well, the stars lined up and the wife and I finally got our chance. We only went just over 100 miles to Fort Custer State Park here in Michigan and the 22FB pulled fantastic. (13.5 MPG behind the 2010 F150) This our first Airstream but our 8th camper so I concidered my self a salty dog. Not the case. The dealership never pointed out that I needed a 30 amp cable. I thought we would pull in and pull the power cord out and plug in. It was 8pm we had no power and the battery was low. Thank goodness for extra blankets. (it got down to 38 Friday night) Saturday we found a dealership and purchased the power cord and Saturday was great. We will have to watch our freshwater consumption, the 20 gallon tank runs out pretty quickly. And, I wish the Airstream dealer had mentioned they hadn't turned off the hot water bypass, but that's all part of figuring out how to use your new camper.

Can't wait for the next opportunity to get away,
T4

Well, there is a learning curve with any machine, but it sounds like you're well on your way. But I can't imagine a dealer selling an Airstream without the power cord to plug it in ... sounds like an oversight to me ... or am I just missing something in the "new economy?" Hope they supplied air for the tires and keys for the door!!!

Enjoy!

If this is a new trailer a power cord is furnished, well . . . usually. You're dealer owes you.

look in the bumper storage area, or under the bed. It's probably stored there.

There is no rear bumper on the 22fb. I looked everywhere and there is not a cord.

Guess I'm going to my dealer today. I thought maybe it was my fault and they didn't come with one.

Congratulations on your new Airstream!
If it is the same dealer we bought our Airstream from, good luck. Ours came with incomplete keys and a bunch of things wrong. They promised keys and we ended up having to get blanks from Airstream and have them cut ourselves.
Make the dealer supply the cord. It should have been with the camper. The camper should have been plugged in when you went to pick it up so they could show you how things worked.

Wow, I do hope that JC is monitoring how dealerships treat customers on the new purchases. Last I knew the dealers were required to provide an inspection with the tech going over every item (hands on) with the customer on the Airstream. If they did not do this, I'll send and e-mail myself to Mr. Wheeler and let him know as it should be about customer service not sales.

On another note, glad you are having fun as everyday out in the Airstream regardless of how many times, is an adventure.

Have fun.

We got a survey in the mail from JC post-delivery where that kind of info can be shared (and I agree with your suggestion to reach out directly too). Sounds like a crummy experience!!

Enjoy the rest of it though - warts and all, it's one fantastic journey!!!

Be aware! Airstream travel can become addictive. After finishing 4 straight weeks in my new trailer 2 weeks ago I am ready to go again! It does sound like your dealer didn't give you the kind of launch you should have had, hopefully they'll make this up to you.
