I think you're right, the seat configuration looks more like a Lambretta. I'll have to re-review on a bigger screen.

I guess it's a sign of advancing years when one notices the scooter and totally disregards the pretty young girls.

I concur. But I'll call it advanced versus advancing.

Time marches on and this hiker is footsore. He would, in the competition between young men and old , grab the Vespa and be miles down the road before the younger man so naturally distracted now learns he must tote her things as well as his own.

As I said in my original post, I found this on a Facebook post in Tin Can Tourists. It seems that one person in that group was offended by the "even a woman..." comment in the video and things deteriorated from there!!! The entire post was deleted.

I truly hope no one here is offended by the title of this post. I am simply amazed when I think of just how the world has changed in 55 years. I like to believe that no one takes this seriously and that we can laugh at ourselves...

"Even a woman can do it..."

Editors and moderators have weak spines. Excuses for censoring speech are no longer rational. The Vespa clip was nothing but fun. We can find plenty of posts on this forum far more critical of men in general.

Since I was nearly an adult (a status I have yet to fully achieve) when this clip was made, I can attest that "even a woman can do it" would have drawn no attention then. It just shows that we are slowly making progress, although I think it is ridiculously slow, and when you look at a lot of other cultures, I wonder if, worldwide, will women will ever achieve even near equality or respect, before the human species manages to self destruct.

No need to thank me for bringing this moment of Holiday Cheer to one and all.

I've never seen a Lambretta in real life. They must be quite a bit more rare than a Vespa. I had never even heard of them except on som TV show like American Pickers.

@ Protag, OMG I knew the guys that ran in the TT on Man were a bit crazy but the scooter rallies drivers are totally nuts. Especially the "monkeys" riding the side cars.

I briefly owned a Lambretta in my university time - lo these many years ago!

I saw it lying forlorn in the front yard of a house near the school and bought it for next to nothing - someone had stripped the spark plug thread in the cylinder head so it was not running.

I had it shipped to my parents place by train - about 100 mies away. It was an easy fix with a helicoil insert.

I rode it around briefly but felt it to be sort of dangerous with those little wheels compared to a regular motorcycle and so I sold it within a few weeks. Don't recall if I made $$ on the deal or not!

As with many things we all had long ago, I wish I had it now! I haven't seen one in a long time.

It was pretty similar to a Vespa from what I remember of it.

Brian.

I was not worried about you exactly, the smiley face told me I was safe...
I was really amazed at one woman's reaction on the Tin Can Trailers FB feed and it concerned me. I simply could not figure out why she reacted so powerfully.
Rather than risk offending someone here I thought I would state my position and hopefully diffuse any angst.
I am married to a Very Strong woman! I know that in general you modern "girls" are strong...
Thanks for reassuring me though!

Well here is your chance!
If you purchase one let us know, maybe we can find the camper/tent unit for it too!

Wow, that's a beautiful scooter..

I don't have any reason to know what I'm taking about, but that looks like a good price also.

We have a set of Encyclopedia Britannica from 1911 and you would NOT BELIEVE how "PinC" the world was then. We get a good laugh out of 1911 and then an even bigger laugh out of today. What are we thinking of??

I found the same thing in a 1920's Geography (social studies) text book. I was amazed by the prejudices towards any group that wasn't of European descent. Maybe some books deserved to be burned.

Such as my 1921 Rand McNally World Atlas, that actually said in one country's write-up that the inhabitants of that foreign country were less intelligent because their skulls were thicker and their brains were smaller as a result?
