Hey, these things make great hot wire cutter power supplies, so if anyone out there is building a foam-composite airplane, I got several more--I'd even throw in a little for the shipping...

inverter or converter
I'm wondering if the winning bidder thought that he/she was buying an inverter?

Ya know............
You're probably right about that. The sad thing is that the seller can plead ignorace between the terms 'inverter' and 'converter' and many, many folks in the RV world really don't know the difference (sad but true!).

Guilty here - upgrade was one of our first items of business and sold our old univolt this past fall on ebay for 20 bucks less than I paid for the intellipower (before shipping on both accounts). Ebay auction started at a buck.... I figure people will pay what they want to pay, the wonders of auctions. None-the-less it paid for more of our "cheap" hobby.

My trailer came without the univolt. The PO had a Sears Craftsman automatic 12 V battery charger wired in. It is noisy although i have never really used it other than to take it out and charge batteries.
I am about to begin the reconstruction effort after 2 years of tear down with major down time gaps. What is the recommended Univolt replacement for a 31 ft 1978 CB Sovereign, and where is best price?

First place I look is PPL Motor Homes in Texas and Vintage Trailer Supply somewhere in the east... I'm sure there are others. I favor the Intellipower 9200 series and find 45 amps is enough. Most would go for 60 amps, however.

the new Intellipowers have the charge wizard bit built in now to maintain proper battery level, so you no longer have to order the wizard and add it on. I just got a 45 amp from VTS and got 5 bucks off using the Airstream Life coupon. maybe I'll get lucky and pay for it using ebay ;-)

Try member 68 Overlander (Randy at BestConverter - Converters, Inverters, Electrical Supplies, Electronics) for great struff at good prices with unsurpassed service. He is a great resource for this type of item.
BTW, the new Xantrex converter is quite the nuts in that segment!

Was the univolt sold as a converter or a boat anchor?
