changing her name
Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall it being a *bad thing* to change the name of your yacht - that being a land or water yacht! I understand that most of us probably don't know the name that a PO might have given our trailer - and thus a name change becomes a moot point. BUT - I am already wanting to change the name I gave my AS.
I love Ophelia Overlander, but have had a difficult time explaining it to others - and sometimes get a chuckle when it's relayed as "oh, I Feel Ya". Bad. I've come up with another name that I like and wonder if I will Jinx Ophelia if I use it now. Maybe it doesn't require a full name change -- I could just use my new name as a nickname and keep Ophelia as her formal name? Any comments???

Well, I can't help you with the name, but I do have a related question for forum members. How do you tell if an airstream is a "he" or a "she"? We're pretty sure ours is a "he", but want to be certain. Thanks!

Hi Laura.
Ladies change their name when they get married, sometimes.
Names are sometimes changed for adopted kids.
How about "Opulent Overlander"?
Or, if she is realy, really great, how about "non-pareil overlander"?
Or, have a contest for a name, on the Forums??????

Hi, I just asked my wife, "is our trailer is a He or She and why? She, my wife, said our trailer is a She because of "Le Petit" in her name. So I will add two things; If your trailer has been given a female name or if while parked is wearing a skirt, then your trailer is a She. On the other hand, If your trailer hasn't been named and doesn't wear a skirt, I can't answer that question.

Actulally, quite the opposite: "l e petit" ensures that it is Male. On the other hand, if it was "l a petit e", you would know it was definitely a lady.
Of course, that should only really be of interest to another trailer...

Laura,
I like the name Ophelia Overlander.
So, use a nickname if you want. I would get in trouble with the mods if I said the nickname I gave Bertha when her frame broke!!!

Marie, I don't think "Rotten-A**, Rusted-out piece of crap" will fit on a license plate...

I was always told that cars, boats, and airplanes are always female. Would an Airstream not fit somewhere in this category?

I know that, in the future, we will share unspeakable names for each other ... but, till then, I was thinking she really fits the nickname Silver Olive... Olive for short. Would it be bad luck to start calling her Olive? I don't need any extra bad luck! Or that is, WE don't need any....

How to do a name change
There are several rites that you can use depending on your religious beliefs, or you can take the secular approach. I you choose that one it is fairly easy to do. Start by removing everything that was not put in trailer by the manfacturer; that includes any marking or numbers. Once that is done the trailer must be completely cleaned inside and out. Then you give the trailer it new name and attach that new name to some part of the trailer. If lighting does not strike you afterwards then the name change was successful.

Hmmm... Richard...
Every boat re-naming ceremony I've ever attended has involved large quantities of alcohol... at least I think I remember drinking there...

Name Change
Alcohol is apart of most rites but is optional. As to Sex, as Robby the Robot stated "The question is totally without meaning." However they do have personalities and most people can feel that the first time to see the trailer.

I changed the name of my boat from "Miss Lillie" to "Frayed Knot" based solely on my mother's refusal to board. She was afraid people would think she was Miss Lilly.
