No. It's a product of crass commercialism. Unless you've installed add-on software to block tracking cookies, every commercial (as in, trying to sell you something) website tries to load tracking cookies on your computer. Then, when you visit a website that has embedded advertising space, the tracking cookie does its thing, and dredges up advertising tailored to your browser history. On my home comuter, I have tracking cookies blocked, so I seen no ads at all for anything other than AirForums and rallies when I'm on the AirForums site.
On my office computer, I occasionally spend my lunch break browsing for outdoor equipment, so I tend to see ads for Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, and Sea Eagle inflatable kayaks when I log onto the AirForums from work.
Since I work for the Federal Government, I can't install a tracking cookie blocker; the Federal Government reserves the right to track all of the websites I visit, and they won't let me block their tracking.
