I can't pick or fiddle.
When the Good Lord handed out musical talent mine kind of slipped through my fingers and fell on my toes.
Anyone care for a foxtrot or mazurka or a waltz?
Maybe a two step or a three step or a polka?
How about some Salsa or a Jitterbug or a good old dreeeamy sloooow dance.
Aint nothing like inhaling the breath and the sweat and the perfume of a woman in your arms on the dance floor.
I know what it's like to invent new riffs.
I just do them with my feet...

This is a new thread to me. I always wondered how many out there played an instrument while camping. I always take my mandolin, I don't always play. It depends on what's going on, and the mood. My fingers are too big for chording so I'll never amount to much on it, but sure do enjoy pickin'.

WOW......that sounds too cool! I play piano! Hey....... if you attend the "Wedding Rally" June 1-3, at Lake Forest Resort in NH (a New England Unit Rally), we can work out some music for that special weekend. And YES....we really are having a couple getting married that weekend with their AS friends.

I've played guitar for the past 38 years. Bofore that I played the uke, and in grade school the flute. Someone used my flute to smoke dope in and the first time I blew into the thing, I was the one that got busted. That's when I switched to the guitar. The girls dug it too.

Nowadays mostly jazz noodling stuff. Here's a link to a page on Myspace that has a couple of tunes recording using Garage Band, an M-Audio pre and a Mac laptop. So much for the years of guitar lessons, and driving my teacher to live his remaining years in a straight jacket...

I been playing since I was 13, Im sixty now. Have a degree in music with a concentration in American Folk music. That degree and $5.00 will get you a cup of coffee and 2 doughnuts somewhere. I play about 13 different instruments and have a traveling recording outfit (ProTools) that I take with me on extended trips. Use to tour but the wife says no more so I just set in the campgrounds take out the guitar and see who shows up to jam. If you see a 34' Excella with a big red Ford pulling it and a guy with a guitar setting outside pickin' come on over and bring whatever you have to play. We'll have us a hootnanny (boy does that date me).

I have been playing the guitar since I was about 8 years old...after I moved out of the house I picked up a drum set, played that in a couple of open mikes. I picked up a real cool accordian at a yard sale for $5.00 that was going to go on Ebay but I have since fell in love with it's deep rich tones and am trying to perfect it...I play to the stars at night outside so I don't drive my family crazy...

I have been playing accordian since i was a kid.I stil have the 144 bass model I got in fifth grade. Played it on my old bands album on some cajun tunes, and also on my recent cd for a Klezmer tune. Great fun, and not too many players except in Louisiana and in the Polka states.

I've been known to try to pick a tune on guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo, dobro but never the fiddle (devils instrument dontchakknow). Actually been playing in bluegrass bands since 1962. Don't do the math....please
Would love to attend a 'music' rally west of the rockies.

I don't know that I can play much anymore, but at one time I guess I did well enough. I played at least one dance every week for 17 years. I played the fiddle. I say fiddle because "old" western swing and country music are all I know, or ever much want to know. Over the years, I was fortunate to learn from, and play with, some of the best. I've played with an original "Light Crust Doughboy" and with the old fiddle player who was the fiddler for Bob Wills in his road band. You'd have to be old and from Texas to know about the "Light Crust Doughboys." One old man grew up playing in a medicine show juggling his banjo and fiddle behind his back and between his legs while playing his tunes. Boy, could those guys play.

For the past 17 years, I've rarely picked it up. There comes a time for some of us when one has to choose family over your music. I don't resent giving up my music one bit. The hair is now about gone on all my bows. You can' t make much fiddle music without a good bow to drag across the strings. My bows will have to be restrung before I can play much at all again, but after hearing Pahaska play at last year's Texas Vintage Rally, I think I'm going to have to get the old fiddle out and practice up at least to where I can play a song or two with him.


Done right, my favorite is songs are most any old waltz, "Faded Love", "Maiden's Prayer" and "Five Foot Two.

I'm a closet bluegrass banjo picker. I prefer to play around the campfire while Boondocking. It keeps the wild animals away!

I went to the silver trailer social in 03 and sat night the guitars came out
and it was really fun ,a great way to bring folks together camping ,we went
from a few people to 20 or more having a great singalong .I just bought a
Fender strat for my 12 year old Sarah ,shes a natural ,its gonna be fun .

From a rookie mandoline player, I would encourage you to take it back up again. You could spread so much enjoyment to other folks, as well as yourself, I suspect. Many of us would love to have the chance to play with someone like you. Maybe at some future rally....

I play a Martin D20 guitar...I have been loving it for less than a year now...plays and sounds great. Wasn't cheap!!!! $$$$$$$...but I just love it!

My husband is a drummer and I a singer. I sang with his band for years. We played all types of music. Colleges Golf Clubs Weddings Parties. The smoke in the Bars got to us. We no longer have a band. And drums are not easy to travel. We do love music, singing and dancing.

I used to play the quitar, still have it. I pretty much put it aside. I busted my wrist up real bad, along with some fingers. Made it hard to play. Just got tired of having to take a pain pill before and after. I let my two year old pick on it, as well as bang on the piano, drums and harmonica. He has a few other insruments as well.

Always loved the sound of a guitar, especially acoustic, finally after retiring for the second time I started trying to learn to play one. Wish I had started a long time ago, but enjoy jam sessions mostly country or bluegrass which can be found at most campgrounds. Really like my Blueridge.
