Airstream Current Model Differences
Hello. I am new to this forum, and to the Airstream world. In order to get my knowledge "up to speed" I'm trying to find out what the differences are between the models. I see "International," Flying Cloud," "Classic," and (last year at least but it seems to have disappeared) "Safari." Then there are the "Excellas" and others no longer in production. Which ones have the slides and so on. They all seem to come in similar lengths, so is there some place that tells you what the differences are besides in the name of the model? Thanks. Gary
Have you checked out the Airstream product line here: Airstream, Inc :: Our 2009 Fleet or are you asking more about older models?
Briefly - the Safari line was replace with the Flying Cloud, the International line is more modern/contemporary and the Classic line is more traditional. There are also specialty "finish packages" that confuse things even more...good luck with your search - there is a wealth of knowledge here, so don't be afraid of asking questions!

Airstream used different names for different trim levels in their trailers. The problem is that what name was used changed over the years. Also, trailers were ordered with special trim at the customers request. The Flying Cloud name is from the 1950's but was revived recently. What you're going to get in a trailer of a certain name depends more on the year than the name.
Airstreams also come in different widths. Some of the old ones were only 6' wide. Later, they got wider and for years 7.5' was standard. Then they went to an 8.5' wide body. Now they offer both 7.5 and 8.5 widths. The wider trailers are also taller and heavier.
The best thing you can do is get out to a dealer and look at the trailers. Also try to see some vintage AS at a rally. Lot's of folks will let you take a look.
