I would second going over Raton. We just went through that way last August and the roads were all good.

Good Luck
Good Luck, I've traveled both ways planed and with the wind. I've enjoyed both. I suggest, don't panic when the unexpected happens because it will. Try to enjoy it.

Thanks, guys, for suggestions, but, I've paid for reservations for RV parks 3 each of 2 trips, plus hotels X 2 for 1 trip. So, come rain, snow, or sunshine...I'll travel I 70 east thru Salina, Kansas to, south on I 35 thru Oklahoma to Ft. Worth. I'm thinking positive and it should be fine! My timeline is specific, and I'm hoping that this spring blizzard proves to be the only snag in my "otherwise, perfect plan"!
We accumulated about 2' of snow, with some deeper drifting. One good thing... When it melts, everything will green up nicely. This is certainly not the worse spring blizzard we've had...just not good timing considering my travel plans.

Rethink towing if it is snowing, Evelyn.
Seriously, campground and hotel reservations can generally be moved from one date to another, without any penalty.
You want to get there...and back...in one piece.

I agree with what Maggie said. Also agree that the route through Raton, or alternately Lamar, and down here on 287 will have you on good roads all the way. Be safe!

Thanks, all. I should have good roads on Monday...according to forecasts, Sunday is sunny, 50's, Monday is sunny, 60's. Of course, towing the Bambi to Ft. Worth is the purpose of the trip...to trade it in on Interstate. If I run into bad driving conditions, I can just pull off the road and wait it out! I will be careful, as a damaged Bambi will be of little use as a trade in.
Off now to the MD for labs and a 100,000 mile checkup! LOL!

Hello All! I arrived safely to camp site #1, in Oakley, Kansas.High Plains RV PARK. Nothing to write home about.,...very austere. Just a big gravel lot...windy. I arrived about 2:15 Denver time....no one here at office.....just a message to call them. They told me my site #. I'm parked, had lunch....no sign of any camp employees. This is NOT ON MY RECOMMEND LIST. IT'll do for an O/N stop...barely. One point above a Walmart.
IMO! I think I'll cancel this stop when I come through with "Goliath"
Drive was lengthy, uneventful...got here sooner than I expected. That's OK. I'm tired, so I'll turn in early...hopefully sleep better than last night. Plan to pull out early AM. Left home at 07:15.
Made my lists .... Checked them off...left home without a clock, a vacuum, and my prepared lunch on the go bag. Always leave something at home.nothing really serious though.
Later...off to nap.Evelyn.

I have never been in Kansas when it wasn't windy, Evelyn.
Sounds like you drove far enough for your first day. I am always ready to stop by 2-3 pm. Driving is tiring.
Have a glass of wine, get a good nights rest....I hope you brought wine.

Maggie,
I was tired...listened to Celtic music all the way. That's pretty lively. I always sing along....sounds good with a chorus background......then when music stops and I keep singing....I'm glad no one else can hear! LOL!
The wind has not stopped! It gently rocks the BAMBI....helps me sleep. I had a good nap.
Woke about 2-3 hrs after. Cleaned up little Bambi...(from snow & stuff the grands tracked in when they packed for me). Now, it's all spotless...I feel better. Made my phone calls, etc. Now am ready to go down. For the night. Won't bother with tv or furnace /ac. It's low of 45 here tonight...my cozy comforter will do fine.
More tomorrow. Evelyn.

Good morning all. Slept remarkably well, due to wind rocking BAMBI. I could never live in this sort of place ....wind is relentless!
I had forgotten....my iPhone has an alarm. I awoke to the sound of church bells at 5:30...actually 4:30 Denver time...I discovered after I was ......sort of ...awake.
Greek yogurt for breakfast. I need coffee! This place opens at 9am, at which time I'll be long gone! First place I see open.....THERE MUST BE COFFEE!
Don't know if I can wait till daybreak!

If you get into a Trader Joe's, Evelyn, they have really excellent, inexpensive, single cup, instant coffee packets.
I buy the ones with milk and sugar already in them , and they are my usual coffee for "go" mornings....heat your water, add packet, and you have a cup of good coffee to get you going, without the clean up of doing a pot.
Drive carefully.
Maggie

Fun to "travel along". Main thing is safety. Should be a calmer day, hopefully. Been very windy across the area. Keep us informed.

Aero Press coffee maker makes excellent single serving of coffee. Wipe with a paper towel to clean wrap up the grounds in the towel and you're done.

Would also suggest the Stanley Thermos french press. Just put hot water into the grounds, wait a minute or two and insert the french press. Close the lid and it stays hot for hours. Great coffee. Got mine at a fishing store but they are in the Stanley Thermos lineup online. Hope today was a good day.
