I love my little furry babies, too. There is something special about the unconditional love they offer. We had a 2 dog night for the past 3 nights. It has been cold and Mikki and Nikko love to snuggle close to Mommy! We had a lovely white Christmas and the snow lasted all last night and part of today...a light, soft powder snow...about 4 inches. Our first white Christmas in several years! Love it! Blessings. Evelyn.

Late?

OK, maybe a bit late, but Grace, my cat wishes all a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in her own inimitable way......

What a beautiful cat, Tommie!

And Merry Christmas to you,

It's never too late for well wishes.

Ah, the adult conspiracy to get kids to read. Love that idea!

Ours are all early readers, ditto the grandkids. It's a good thing to encourage.

Yep.

Children who are read to become avid readers, in my experience, and it is the single best thing one can do for speech and language development.

They love to read in bed at this age, and have been doing it with flashlights, but the book lights are so much simpler....they love them, and I knew they would. Grandmas know kids.

Four scrubbed and jammied babes, now snuggled together on the carpet in front of the woodstove, watching a movie.

I like them to play sans electronics, which they do very well, but a well timed movie .....settles them down before bed, and brings a bit of quiet to the little house.

I like.

Noise can return in the am.

Yup. All 4 of ours are avid readers. The only issue we had growing up was building enough bookcases. I can handle that one😄

Both our kids were read to for years by either myself or my wife. Our daughter read on her own, our son, not until he got into computers. Then he started reading constantly, but on the computer or a kindle and now he is an IT person.

I know about reading to the kids. I'm a school bus driver and on Wednesday I read a book to my kids on the bus ( when I get to the school I have 10 extra min.) and they love it. It's called Reading Wednesday.

Good for you!

They will remember that all of their lives, and you may make the difference for any disadvantaged kids.

My son is an IT person, too.

Freezing rain and high winds today. Everything is coated with ice and swaying ominously, but so far we have not lost power nor any tree branches.

A good day not to be on the road.

One of the older-kids-things I bought a few weeks ago was a game called Qwirkle....kind of like dominoes with colors, but not.

Requires thinking and strategizing, and takes up to 2 hours to play. They have loved it.

Great at imaginary play, there has also been lots of "chiropractor" today.

Grandma is having a tea break.

We're looking for 8 inches of snow over night. Glad you have a wood stove. You can pretend camp if the power goes out.

Yep, we won't have to worry about heat.

There has been so much rain here that it is standing in puddles in my back yard....but, if it were snow.

Maggie, sorry...it seems we have sent some of our winter weather your way. Only, we did not have ice storms here. Just very cold temps and snow.

Keep the led lanterns handy, the firewood pile high in the house...just in case ice affects power lines. Snuggle in with your grands and keep everyone warm and cozy. You're right...not a good time to be outside. God bless. Evelyn.

Movie time for them, a-glass-of-wine time for Grandma.

It is a very busy little house, with four 8-12 year olds in it.

Today is the 29th anniversary of our first date..... December 29th, 1986.

Only very rarely thru our 27+ years together did both of us forget the 29th of the month.....and in the early days, Doug would invariably bring me a red rose on the 29th. In later years, it was usually just "Happy 29th, honey.".

Even still, as we became a long married couple with grown kids, grands, and retirement travel... the rose still showed up on occasion.

Roses were his thing.

Good dog! Good Christmas!

Blackie and I are home, and the big computer allows me to post pics. I need to learn how to do that on the iPad, but haven't yet. Learning curve in progress, as with a lot of things these days.

After jumping up on one of my old, rather petrified, gaucho cushions, Blackie settled down on her dog bed and slept there for the rest of the five-day stay. She knows I need to replace those cushions.

She also got along with my daughter's two family dogs. Another big dog was visiting while his family was out of town, and he and Blackie got some sort of argument going, and we spent the rest of the time keeping those two separated. Guest dog had a prior injury, and wasn't fit enough to risk letting them settle it in dog fashion. Blackie is a big Lab--80 lbs.

Christmas in the Airstream was a good one. We managed just short of full hookups in the kids' driveway, and I had my own comfortable living space very close to their house. And, most importantly, granddaughter Grace had no delay in getting to the gifts on Christmas morning. She's the one who insisted that I stay in the driveway instead of at the RV park.

When I got home, we'd had 3.5" of rain. I chose to back my rig all the way down our long gravel driveway to stay out of the mud. Next door, the neighbor's girlfriend's 18 year old son had driven her nice Lexus off the drive and gotten completely stuck in the mud. Unpacking the truck and the Airstream had to wait until I got out our old Massey-Ferguson tractor and pulled him out.

Couple of days to do laundry and clean up, then I'll take the trailer back to its indoor storage location. As last Saturday proved, we do have bad storms here in the wintertime. Fortunately, all of that missed my house by quite a distance. Prayers for those affected, please. It's bad over to the east, near Dallas.

I hope you are at least thinking about making the drive out to our Shirley
Valentine gathering in Oregon next September.

Or meeting up somewhere while I am west, and more-west.

OK, I'll think about it. Not sure my old Dodge TV will make the Rockies--need to have a long chat with my favorite truck mechanic. I could airline up there and stay in a cabin, but then I'd have to find accommodations for Blackie. Lots of thinking, but I really do appreciate the invitation.

I do plan to make the airshow in Oshkosh, WI at the end of July. Maggie, where do you plan to be along about that time? We do need to meet somewhere.
