At O'Hare....was snowing at home, snowing hard here, but raining out east, so we'll see if I get out of here on time.

Doug's Mom is slipping farther and farther.... She will be 98 this month,

Had three alarms set for 3 am, woke to all three of them going

Maggie, stay bundled up and warm and safe. I hope you get out on time. O'Hare can be tough, right?
Sending prayers for your MIL. 98! My goodness, the life she must have lived. I feel like a wimp for lamenting my recent 77th. I should be so lucky to live into 90s.
A 3 alarm wake up seems like something I would do, especially when traveling on a tight schedule. Glad it did the job! LOL! Evelyn.

Doug's Mother died yesterday afternoon, just slipped away. She never did experience any pain, but her body had been trying to die especially this last week or so.....and then, she was just gone.

She is with Doug, now, and that's where she has wanted to be ever since he died. I am glad she went without experiencing the pain we were all fearing, and can't feel too badly for a woman who had lived almost a century and only lost living independently a year ago. We should all be so lucky.

A good woman, who lived a good life, and raised a good man. Here's to you, Louise.

Another mass shooting...I have come to expect something like that every time I open my news page. . What..is..the world..coming..to.

May their souls rest in peace, and may peace find its way to their survivors.

Made it to the Newark airport only an hour late yesterday....the delay was not in Chicago, but with rain out here. Am safely ensconced with Joseph and Gabrielle, and enjoying some time with these fine folks. Rallies are for snatches of time with lots of people...this is a visit.

On to NYC by train tomorrow, where my daughter will send a car to Penn Station for me, and I will get to see where she works.

SIL is struggling to wrap his head around his body's revolt, the huge changes that has brought to his life, and getting his blood sugar down. A process, not an event, I will remind him.

Gabrielle had to go into her local jeweler yesterday, so I left my ring of roses for them to bring down to a 6.

I hate to be without it, but the sizer is hideous and doesn't keep the ring from slipping around anyway. I just have to keep adjusting it so I don't have to look at the sizer. I hate it.

They are going to cut it down and have it for me at least by Friday morning.

Local, family owned places....good.

Blessings to you and your mother in law. May she rest and rejoice with her loved ones who have gone before her.

Enjoy the big NYC and your visit with family. Its my favorite walking city. Lived there from 18 to 22 yrs old what a time.

Thanks for including us makes me feel like I have been somewhere this year.

. Thank you.

Have ordered a blue and cream floral arrangement for Louise...blue being her favorite color... also three red roses for the crook of her arm in Doug's memory. Doug's daughter will then put those on his grave for me.

Doug, his Dad, and now his Mom will all again be together, in beautiful Grace Hill Cemetery.

Makes me teary, we have come full circle in 21 months.

Sorry to hear, Maggie, but at some point they are living for us at discomfort to them. We don't want to, but we have to let them go. Our sympathies are with you.

Maggie, such a bittersweet end to a portion of a family story...comforting to know they are together for eternity. May they all be under God's watch.
I'm glad you have reached your destination safely and can rest a bit. Your daughter and SIL will certainly benefit from your strength and courage. Bless you, Maggie.

Thanks, everyone.

She was a good woman, and a strong woman.

Doug's Dad died suddenly the day before his 4th birthday, leaving her with a 4 and 7 year old to raise by herself....which she did, not remarrying until they were grown.

Not because there weren't offers, but because she was a schoolteacher and had "seen too many men lose their heads over their step daughters". This in the 50's and 50's, before such things were really acknowledged. She knew, because she saw it and heard about it from her students.

So, raise them she did, because what are you going to do? Sink or swim...she chose to swim. I am glad to have known her.

Gabrielle is making homemade spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, Joseph has made a garlic and olive oil dip for fresh bread, and his sons are coming. Nice.

Ah... We just canceled our site at CanOpener this year. We swapped with AirHammer.

On the train into the big city, after a wonderful visit with two of the nicest people I know. Will see them again at Alumalina in a couple of months.

Picked up my band of roses ring from their local jeweler this morning....he put two, tiny, sterling silver balls in the inside of the ring, to size it down for me without cutting it again....also polished it to such a brilliant shine that it nearly blinds the eye.

Looking forward to seeing darling daughter and SIL this afternoon.

Maggie,

My sincere condolences, but what a wonderful heritage and example of strength you MIL has left for her family to rejoyce in, and be grateful for.
