After two days of badly needed rain, Mother Nature is giving us a few days of sun and very moderate temps within which to get yard work done.

Thank you.

Going to put a meatloaf in the oven today, make some mashed red potatoes and cook some corn.....one of Doug's favorite meals, and one I have not prepared since he died.

But, I want it, and so seldom feel the urge to cook these days that I need to take advantage of it while I have it. Then, will fill foodsaver bags for the freezer with the leftovers. I like MRE's.

I have been thinking about putting in some CD's and listening to them, too. Haven't done it yet, but I'm thinking about it.

They're all looking at me from the glassed in portion of the entertainment center.....including the travel case still with the CD's in it that he selected and placed there before our last trip.

It is still terribly difficult to touch things Doug had his hands on last.....be it batteries needing changed in the big flashlight, tools, screws on the toilet paper holder that needs to be replaced, the box of touch up paints on the high shelf with labeling in his handwriting.

I am so aware of it. Once I have touched them, they are no longer things-he-touched-last....they are now mine, and another piece of him is gone. Sigh.

I am definitely avoidant of doing things that bring twinges of pain and loss, and that's okay, really. I can do at my own pace what doesn't demand immediate attention, right?

Some things must be done....others can wait until I am ready to go there.

I have made a resolution to try to stay out of pissing matches on these Forums.

Have you noticed how some threads deteriorate quickly into which brain has the most info and can articulate the best argument?

A new bit of mindfulness for moi.

You are so right, Maggie!

I don't really like confrontations and try to take the high road, but occasionally something is said that gets under my skin and I feel the need to state my case. Later I am always upset with myself for not "turning the other cheek" -- I like to believe that sooner or later the truth comes out and I don't have to feel badly about pointing it out.

Hi Deb!

And...yep!

Been there, done that, and afterwards sometimes feel as if impulse has gotten the best of me, and that I have acted badly.

And, sometimes I have and must apologize.

I am working on it.

I'm sure impulse will still sometimes get the best of me, but then......aren't we all just a work in progress?

Agree! We all have opinions, and it is all too easy for one to convince self, that their's is the right one. I'm afraid I have been guilty of this from time to time. Once stated, can be difficult to take back. I've come to the realization that withholding mine is in best interest. So, I visit, read others opinions, 'think of my own', then move on! The world does not suffer for the lack of my opinions. No harm, no foul? I still enjoy my visits , though.

Hi Evelyn!

We ladies are having Sunday brunch together.

I seldom withhold an opinion, if I feel I have something to say ....it's the pissing match part I need to work on staying out of.

I never feel better about myself as a person once I have succumbed.

And, while you are here....

I am rethinking trekking all the way to the west coast next summer, as Gail is planning on coming to Wyoming and I want to try to make Alumalina in NC in October. I think the Spring one will be early April, by which time I will need to be home.

Traversing the country west, and then back nearly to the east coast seems like a lot in a 4 month period.

We had talked about doing a ladies rally of sorts on the west coast.....perhaps more Wyoming-ish???

What think thee, ladies?

Oh? Sunday brunch! Does Greek yogurt, a blueberry fig bar, coffee qualify? It's always nice to visit with you ladies!
Yes,Wyoming can work! What do you think about Grand Tetons? Still one place I have not visited and hope to. Would be nice to meet some of you ladies. I do still hope to get to Oregon coast, even if I have to fly. Still on my list!
On the subject of "piss match"...I just perused the 'drone' thread. Boy, do I have opinions on that one! Did not make a peep! Read them all, moved on! Have a terrific day, all. Evelyn.

I think we can work out a location, may have to be a bit creative, but something before or after Ray Eklunds boondocking gig August 14th?

Any lady readers here are invited....don't know that we need to start a rally thread. Just chime in.

And, anyone with a spouse along would certainly not be rejected...tho they might need to bring along a good book to read while we ladies gab.

Sounds like fun! Look forward to it! After the crowds subside & kids are back to school?....late August, early September? Cooler weather? Evelyn.

Late August works for me, and that is after Ray's gathering.

We can plan on Teton-ish, as we will already be there .....exactly where can be determined at a later time.

And, there is some elevation there, so cooler temps are built in.

It's a loosely made plan.

Now, we need to wait to see if FaN will drive down to join us.

Maggie,

Wish we were getting some of that rain. There's a lot of it just a few miles west of us but we barely got enough yesterday to water the garden. The lake is way down as are all the sinkhole lakes around here, and I sure hope we aren't on the verge of another draught: cause instead of worrying about fixing the Jon boat I'll be worried about the dogs escaping via a dry lake bed.
Somehow I've ended up with a lot of potatoes here and think I'll be using one bag for mashed potatoes too. I was thinking of making a Sheppards pie but meatloaf might work too.

I don't mind differing opinions as long as they are well thought out: just can't stand opinions based upon lies and almost lies.

Wish I were able to go west, but it won't be happening that soon. I'll just enjoy the stories from my iPad and easy chair.
