We snuck out to the beach for a long walk first thing this am....warm enough that Lily headed into the water without any persuasion from me.

After lamenting not having found any olives (seashells) yet this trip, the beach was littered with them this morning...mostly tiny ones, but a handful of larger ones just in the area we walked.

The state shell of South Carolina, you know. Lovely.

Dumped the tanks...I cooked yesterday, generating pots/pans and more than the average amount of dishes/dishwater...and then took a drive to look around Tybee a bit.

Unremarkable, but for its preservation, but very pretty.

Not Edisto, however, the bar by which all low country islands are compared.

Edisto is special, and if you've ever been there, you know why.

As darling daughter and her sweet hubby will be moving into their new house the third weekend of February, I moved my two weeks in Charleston up so that I can have that and still be there with them. My next major stop.

There is a young couple from Michigan here who are traveling for a month in a Rialto...with 3, 2 and 1 year old children.

They're having a blast, and the kids are loving the beach.

The two women from New York, who spontaneously invited a complete stranger to come for dinner, cooked me a delicious meal and were absolutely delightful.

Friends for 44 years, raised their kids together, took vacations with their families together....cook together as if they've been doing it for decades, because they have.

A very enjoyable evening, and one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

My host last evening mixed me a favorite cocktail of theirs..."Honey Jack & Ginger", which was delicious.

This, plus ginger ale or ginger beer, over ice... plus a dark, sweet, cherry immersed within, because she hates maraschinos.

Doug would have loved it.

Woo Maggie! I'm going to have to try that. Laura and I are in Bartlesville OK for her Dad's funeral. He was 95 years young, active right up to the end. She spoke with him over the phone last Saturday evening and he was fine. We got the call from her brother on Sunday noon that he had been found unconscious on the floor in his room. Massive stroke. He was still breathing but the spirit had departed. On Monday around noon the body figured it out and quit too. We were already on the road when we got the news. That took some of the pressure off as there was no point in hurrying any more.

So sorry to hear that, Gerard...my condolences to you both.

Yep, this little concoction was good.

I'm more a wine...or these days, Prosecco ...girl, but an occasional mixed drink is kind of fun.

We would mow, do housework, yardwork, laundry, etc., of a summer Saturday, and as the day was winding down and we were thinking about grilling something yummy, Doug would invariably say..can I mix you a drink, baby?

Gin and tonic or Jameson & Ginger were the standards, perhaps a Manhattan if his mixologist self was kicking in.

A nice change, a mixed drink, and I will be buying a bottle of this.

It was a very enjoyable evening.

Did a little laundry this morning, then walked Lily back to a little shop that was not open when I was thru there the other day...I wanted a tshirt or hoodie or some such item from here and had not seen anything elsewhere that even remotely appealed to me.

Did find one in here, a nice little local place, with items not too flashy.

http://latitude32.us/

Everyone seems to have their own logo, and are selling coffee mugs, candles, etc., reflecting it.

I have enough mugs...having acquired two more already this trip...tho I was sorely tempted by the large cappuccino mug in Tybean, the coffee place where I stopped in again today. I didn't, tho.

One of the things I love about this campground is their asphalt interior roads, and their white graveled campsites...packed down into the sand, as if one of those big rollers has been over them.

Makes for a very clean outside surface, with very little sand then making its way inside.

I like.

It has been warm enough in some recent days that the vicious little no-see-ums that inhabit these parts have been out, and Lily has been especially uncomfortable from bites.

Scratching vigorously just makes them inflame, and her to itch more, so last evening a neighbor suggested and offered a Benadryl tablet that they give their dogs...which helped tremendously, and I gave her another this morning.

She seems much more comfortable today, and so we took a late morning walk to the little pharmacia here to lay in a supply of our own.

Sitting outside afterwards, sharing a water with Lily, several people stopped to pet and admire my sweet doggie, one of whom shared that they had just lost a dog they'd had for 15 years.

So hard, and I don't even want to think about the reality that Lily's time with me actually has an expiration date.

Whatever our professional leanings have been, I have heard from others what I experience myself...that folks who have needs our particular expertise can help with find their way to us, over and over again, wherever they are.

For me, it is wounded souls who find their way to me.

Part of travel, it seems, practicing our respective craft wherever we happen to be..giving a little to those who need what we have, and taking a little from others in turn.

Seems a reasonably good way to continue to make small contributions to humanity and our fellow man, hmmm?

In the cg office this morning, they had little sea turtle charms for sale...sea turtles being such a big thing in my beloved Low-Country, I bought one and glued a tiny magnet to it to attach to my magnetic-board-that-holds-my-magnets.

This was the little card that came with...will do.

Rivers end is city owned, the cg roads are really city streets. Unusual.

Yep, city owned for the past 10 years, I am told, tho nothing that would indicate that from looking at it.

One of the nicest campgrounds I have ever been in, from a cleanliness, neatness and tidiness perspective, also that staff and campers and locals are just so friendly.

This couldn't have been a better place for me to land after my very-emotional-Monday... that went into Tuesday and Wednesday.

A guiding hand, perhaps....

It is a great ,unique place to stay. Glad you liked it. We were there the first time with the tin can tourists and went back several times more. Bugs are bad certain times of year. Carry on.

Hi Miss Gail!

It is lovely here, and I'm going to get a picture after a bit, before I start readying to leave tomorrow.

There's an art fair going on in town this weekend, so we will take a second walk after awhile and check that out.

Maggie

Note the little trailer to the right....towed by a lime-ey green, VW convertible.

A couple and about an 80 lb lab mix are in there...that dog about twice Lily's size in height.

Savannah, where I think I can overnight in the visitor center parking lot, and will walk the downtown area a bit...another one of those haven't been there since Doug died places.
