What is this?!
Here is the description from craigslist.... (It just polished aluminum not stainless, right? But I don't think I've seen metal skin like this on a 90s motorhome before?)
Used 1995 Airstream Classic 36ft Class A Diesel Pusher Motorhome! - $114990 (Grand Rapids)
Take a look at this stainless steel body beauty! 230hp Cummins diesel engine with roughly 38k miles. High polished exterior. Closest thing to a chrome motorhome that you can buy! Airstream quality. Hardwood cabinetry. 2 AC units blow cold air. Runs and drives well. Call Evan at 616-890-8397 for details on this once in a lifetime chance to own this beautiful coach!

Apparently they're rare, but it's not the only one I've seen:

The owner is just proud of his unit and wants to show it off. He doesn't really want to sell it.
Looks good in the pictures.

Pardon my ignorance - but what do you call this and what years were they made? Is this a land yacht?

I don't think it is a Land Yacht. I think it is a Classic.

Ok doing a bit more research it seems the land yachts are fiberglass and the classics are metal?

Definitely a Classic. You can see the name badge just below the passenger-side front window in one picture.
This is what my Interstate wants to be when it grows up!
Side note, isn't it kind of pretentious to name a vehicle a Classic, rather than allowing it to become a classic by standing the test of time? So, would that make it a classic Classic?

I don't think I'd trust a seller of a 2x overpriced moho when he doesn't even know it's made of aluminum, not stainless steel.
In the last 6 months or so I've seen a scrupulously-maintained one listed for $40k and an always-covered one asking in the low 50s just here in North TX. While that polish job might have cost $15k, I don't think it doubles the value.

Are these units constructed the same way as the trailers - the semi monocoque design with inner/outer skin and ribs? Or is there more framing?

I'm also kind of fascinated that these diesels are "pushers" -- seems like that is a lot of weight and it is cantilevered pretty far back! And what is above the engine, a bed platform?

If it has the tag-axle, it is a gas unit. The single-axle units are the diesel pushers.

Its a Classic.
It was made between '93 and '97, and is Aluminum, as the earlier models were.

Not sure exactly 360 classic diesel pushers they actually made. The vin on mine indicated its number 47 in the series. I paid $36k for mine 2 years ago in very nice condition with 65k miles on it.

That's the front engine gas version on the P30 chassis. You can tell by the tag axel. The diesel pusher is on a Spartan EC2000 chassis with a single rear axel.

It seems surprising to me that there is only a single rear axle on these pushers, and that the axel is kind of far forward, with the weight of that engine hanging so far out.
I am contemplating options for pulling a race trailer and would love an airstream diesel. But I'm reading that the towing capacity isn't that great on these. And that long overhang seems too long to really even think about dropping much extra tongue weight from a trailer on the back.
