Suburban furnace

hI! Getting ready for winter here in East Texas ...we did have 2 days below freezing last year so dont laugh. The main furnace in the 345 gets hot enough around the exaust port on the outside to warp the aluminum skin. The major area is above the ports and toward the front of the coach.
I took the cover off and pulled the extensions out and there does not seem to be any reason for this heat. Any help or experience will be appreciated as usual. I also noticed that the furnace will not ignite unless the genset is on. The fan does come on but not the furnace.

Mud daubers are a problem around here.

You may have debris inside the combustion chamber blocking air flow.

Furnace

Thanks for the reply Tom...I can see (with flashlight) into the exhaust ports and there is not any kind of obstruction other than a bracket that holds the chrome exhaust cover on. The exhaust seems to be coming out of the pipes as it should but I seem to be getting exhaust that is bypassing the piping.

Sounds like you're not getting enough air flow . Check your air ducts to see if they are blocked off or plugged up . With resticted air flow the furnace will tend to overheat . Also the sail switch will have a hard time getting enough air flow to open the gas valve , probably why you need the genset . It could also be weak batteries .

You will need full battery power for ignition (minimum 12.5Volts although it may work down as little as 12.2Volts)

As mentioned above, it would appear that air flow is your overheating problem. It is worth pulling the heater and dismantle all air and chamber ducts. We don't have daubers here in the UK but when our 310 arrived here in the middle of winter after spending its first 25 years in Texas and LA there were dauber nests right inside the fan and surrounding ducts.

Also check that the fan is running at full speed, check for bad connections that will reduce voltage to the motor. Ensure all groundings are good.

Hope this helps.

Low or lack of power plays all sorts of tricks!
