Rear tire holder

My rear tire latch seems to be rusted and will not release foreward. First, how do I fix it and second, is there a specific reason to have it release forward? Thanks

I am not sure what you are reffering to.
What is a rear tire latch?
Perhaps a picture would help.

Sorry, I have her in inside storage until the spring, but I will look on the web for a similar system to mine. Until then, there is a top handle that swings to unlatch and this would seem to alow the tire to pivot away from the vehicle. Any help? I will look for a photo. Thanks

Most of us have a fixed mount for the spare tire. Not sure what the swing away deal is.

Spray it with PB Blaster, it dissolves rust.
