Picked up a spare Genset

Since my generator is vital to our usage and since it is now approaching 1000hrs on the clock, I decided to look for a replacement generator just in case. Ended up finding the exact same version of my Onan Marquis 7000 for a great price that only had 15 hours on the clock. It was used as a backup generator for the owner's workshop. He converted it over to 240/120 operation. The other issue was that it was an LP generator.

In the end, I was able to convert it back to 120V only operation and convert it from LP to gas. Cleaned the slip rings, added new OEM carb (Not a Chinese piece of crap) and fuel pump on top of the usual filter and plug changes.

Load tested it to 6900 Watts using space heaters as a load. Should now be a direct drop-in replacement.

Ready to be installed when needed:

New carb and a fuel pressure gauge:

New fuel pump:

Really getting to know how these old guy's work.

great find!Curious why you didn't continue to use it on Propane? Much less trouble than gasoline ones. you may sacrifice a little power but you have plenty to spare.

I only have a 30-gal LP tank on board and that won't last a week of boondocking that I do with running the generator, the fridge, the AC, the hot water heater and heating system if needed. The current generator is gasoline driven so it would be a quick drop in installation this way. No need to run new LP lines. I still have the original LP carb and regulator in case I decide to sell it. That way, any future owner could use it either way.
