Need help!

I need to ID the coach's vin number, where would I find it?
It is a 1979-81 airstream moho?

Open the "hood" and look for a sliver plate mounted on the left upright support. For a quick "unofficial" translation of the number go here.

Found it!

Bizarre however.
Having linked with other moho expert, I quickly figured out it is a 1979 body, on a 1981 chassis! Could this be? All signals point to a 1981 model: Title, all papertrail, stickers on the windshield, PO etc... However when Carfax got a hold of the 13 digit number it kicked out "too old" pre-1981. The second 17 digit body number did however kicked out 1981 Chevrolet chassis.
How odd for a coach's vin clearly make it a '79, yet the chassis make it an '81.
Could this be the case?

That was a time period that the company was in transition. Thor bought Airstream in 1980. It could be that the body serial number was assigned before the buyout (think inventory valuation), but they actually built it on a 81 chassis, in 1980???
