Looking to buy an Interstate - General Questions

Hi All,

I'm sure these questions have been asked and have been looking for answers. Since running the generator while driving is not the best idea, i wonder what options are in order to be able to let my 3 boys watch tv while driving. Also feel that keeping the fridge running would be ideal for us on some of our longer trips.

BTW - I'll take any other tips

There are 12 volt televisions, my grandchildren also have tablets and download whatever they like before long car rides.

I believe all the refrigerators will run while driving, some using propane and others drawing off the battery.

You might look at the Sprinter and BVan subforum here, where there are lots of threads you may find helpful.

Good luck!

Maggie

TX - if all you want to do is have your boys watch TV there is no need for running the generator. In all Interstates since 2010 there is an inverter that will allow you to run all the TVs in the van while driving and when camping. The refrigerator in 12V and can run continually as long as you have adequate battery power. While driving you will have plenty of 12V power to run the inverter and refrigerator. If you get a newer Interstate, like 2015 or newer, the solar panels will keep batteries charged when not driving.

BTW - you might get more responses if you post in the Sprinter and B-van subfroum.

Hope this helps and good luck on you search for an Interstate.

Interstate TV/Fridge Discussion

We have put almost 30,000 miles on our 2018 Interstate and very happy with it. ( we are also based in Austin TX). Recently, I've posted a question regarding battery capacity to keep the refrig/freezer running overnight when not connected to shore power ( i.e. boon docking ). Awaiting a reply from Airstream support to get their perspective. I have also asked the dealership ( in Buda) to provide me a quote on adding 2 additional batteries. At the moment feeling like most do with their cell phones - you can't have enough battery capacity.

Also, confirming the TV's can be viewed while driving and the fridge/freezer work just fine anytime you have battery capacity. ( usually at 100% when driving and solar panel's are doing their job ). I've never had to run the generator while driving.
