79 Excella Windows help

My 79 Excella motorhome Windows all need new weatherstrip. It looks like the only way to get the fixed glass in the operational and non-operational frames is to completely remove all exterior rivets and pull the frames apart. What am I missing? Also, the door hinges are held by two large Phillips machine screws. They just spin when I try to remove them. ?

Carman, looks like you are new to the forum. Welcome to the madness! You will find all the info you need here on the forum. You will have better luck getting the answers by posting in the Classic Motorhomes section rather than the General Motorhome section.
The windows are a common repair on these old girls. You remove the fuzzy schlegel weatherstripping to make room to remove the glass. There are lots of threads on the subject. I have some posts on the subject in my thread 'Countdown to kickoff" but, there are several more, just do a search.

As I recall when I adjusted my door hinges I had to remove the interior skin to get access to the screws. Sounds to me like a previous owner may have changed something. Here to, a search should come up with several threads on the subject.

You are correct about the fixed glass in the sliders. The vertical bar has to come out and that is fixed in place through the frame and only accessible when the window is removed.

I had to replace my door bolts. What I did was to remove the door trim on the inside. I then measured very carefully and drilled a hole from the back side to align with the door hinge bolts. The size of the hole was determined by the size of the socket I used to put a nut on the replacement bolt. There is fiberglass insulation behind the skin. Be careful it doesn't wrap around the drill bit. I then drilled the head of the bolt off. I then was able to push it out thru the hole on the back side. Mine had some very sticky adhesive still hanging on. I found some stainless steel replacement bolts that had a hex head drive. Lot easier to tighten than a phillips head bolt. When done put some insulation back in the hole and cover with aluminum tape. Put the door trim back on. My cabinets were right next to the door so the door trim was tight against it. I ended up cutting the trim at the cabinet height to be able to remove it. Not very noticeable when done.
