It is so good to see the updates on the Oldest Living Bambi. I finally, cut and fit my final two sections on the floor of my Bambi. It has only taken me about 18 months to get it done.
Sure is a good feeling.

Welcome to the Forums. I see you are from my hometown and also where my trailer was "found" Picture look like the campground on the inlet south of Rehoboth? And Trolley Square?

yep, on both. they're building a new inlet bridge, and that was trolley square.

I have 162T446, so she is the 446th made that year in Jackson?

My neighbor & I have been troubleshooting in advance of selling her, and it's amazing how much can go wrong with them, yet how much is always right.

Congrats BusBoy ~

The AS factory didn't make manuals for their trailers until 1964 so all that might be available would be the typed up component sheets that AS provided on most of the systems and appliances.

Please post some picture so we can see what challenges you have on the renovation / construction projects are facing. What kind of assistance are you looking for?

Martin is working hard on '61 Bambi to finish it before the Region 8 rally in Fremont, NE
the end of April. He'll have his photos ready for the seminar. Haven't camped with it for a few years, used our '69 Overlander.

Ohio # 104

Hi all
I have started restoration of my Ohio Bambi 161T104.
Is it the 4th Ohio Bambi or the 104th?
Anyway I'm having a great time with her. She has sat unused for 30 years.

Hey, I have the first Ca Bambi. Needs both front couches. Does anyone know of any available? I have seen drawings of how to make them but thought it might be easier to find existing ones. Replaced the door handle with a rare new one-Bargman 77-broken handle thing. My door is a suicide one and had to use old parts to convert the new handle to open from the right to left side.

According to the info below, the Ohio Bambi's started at 101 so abased on this you would have #4:

I don't have a complete serial number range (beginning or ending serial numbers) for 1962 Ohio built Bambis. Nevertheless, it appears Ohio built 1962 Bambi serial numbers began at or near 162T401 and went up from there, to at least 162T467. Your 162T419 falls comfortably within that range.

The 250 1961 Ohio built Bambis appear to have serial numbers starting at 161T101 and ending near 161T350. Known low and high 1961 Ohio built Bambi serial numbers are 161T124 and 161T346, thus suggesting the above estimated range of 250 sequential numbers.

The 350 ending sequential number for 1961 Ohio built Bambis leaves open the possibiliy that 1962 Ohio built Bambi serial numbers may have begun 351, but to date no numbers under 401 have been discovered for 1962 Bambis.

So I gather I've got the oldest Ohio Bambi, so far. unless # 1,2,& 3 turn up.

Thanks for the information everyone.

When I pulled this baby home, the packrat nests had grown to 3' deep inside with all of the expected fluid & deposits included. But the trailer was 100% intact & original. The aluminum was all in good shape, and covered by a coat of camouflage paint that has been awful to remove. The rodent tenants had moved in under the floor and inside the walls, necessating all floor and wall insulation replacement. All kinds of strange things were growing in the appliances, water & gas lines, and the inside paint, cabinets & upholstry were saturated with their wonderfully fragrant nectar.

So needless to say, I'm in the middle of a complete ground up restoration. Belly skin, floor, insulation, interior skin removal, stripping & reinstallation, wiring replacement, all are done. Now ready for the Zolatone interior paint, and just finished reglazing & polishing the window frames today. I'll post some photos (when I get time?)

One question if anyone knows, this trailer has the original axel with a 4 lug wheel. The 14" wheels & tires on it now seem large, & have very little clearance. Were the original wheels 13"?

Also all of the appliances work and are being resrored to original condition. One of the few things I am missing are the interior plastic removable door shelves from the Dometic M16 refrigerator. I suspect a difficult thing to come by. Any lines on possible source would be greatly appriciated.

I hope to have a full photo essay of the restoration. and thank those who have preceeded me for their documenting of the processes. Your information has been extremely helpful.

61 Bambi

Hi, just acquired 16TDSS1639, 39th built in Santa Fe, Ca. Found her on the Central Coast of Ca., she had been sitting for the past 25 years. Surprisingly good shape, all orginal except for some carpet. Pulled her home (10 miles) with no problems, think she would like to hit the road soon. Cleaned up real nice, old Ca. license plate and all. Got lucky.
