'62 Bambi - Bathroom sink drain

Hi all,
Now that I have her home, I'm seeing some things for the 1st time. The bathroom sink drain pipe is about 8" long with a rubber stopper at the bottom. When the stopper is removed, the sink will drain (splash) down to the shower floor pan/drain area. Was this original or a P.O. mod?? Thanks fro your help probably the first of many questions.

Thought I would add some photos of the bathroom sink. Was this the original design(?) to drain into the shower pan? Thanks,

I have see one Bambi with a sink like yours. Bet it is a California Built. I have also seen one with a faucet about 8" from the floor over the shower pan. I assume these were for the beach in CA! So I am saying that it is not a mod.

And here is where we all glom onto something of someone else's.... if you ever do not want it I will take it.
