towing enclosed racecar trailer

I would very much like to own an Airstream motorhome (probably from 78-88) as I've had excellent experiences with the trailers, but it's primary use would would be to tow a loaded 20' racecar trailer (8,000#) to the track and be the motel for the weekend and I don't see any excess towing abilities on any of the motorhomes. Can I buy an older motorhome and put a really big diesel in it? Or can I really build a 454 that will do the job? Or won't the chassis take it. I have enough trouble over the Grapevine with a stock '88 454 Suburban. Suggestions please.

I have repowered a 310 Turbo with a Cummins 5.9 at 180 HP using the 518 automatic trans with the transfer case from Dodge 4wd. This combination gives me plenty of power and a lot of gears to get the load moving. You will propably be overloading the capacity of the vehicle by towing that large a trailer but the Cummins will do it.
