Temp Gauge
After all the talk regarding the water wetter and how accurate our temp gauges are I have a question.
What is the displayed range on the temp gauge you have, and does anyone know of a good soure for an OEM style temp gauge?
Mine say teflex, but all the teflex stuff I find is for boats.
Mine has been replaced with a SW knockoff and the range is either wrong or I run at 150-160 degrees
I also plan on replacing the dead clock with a second temp gauge for the transmission. This way they will all be in the dash and have the same look.

Brett,
Not sure how this fits into the vintage scene, however, I have bought a trans gauge and sender from these folks. Got the order only a few days after ordering and fit, finsh and performance has been great.

teleflex instruments
Brett, I would think that there is an automotive division as they are so prevelant on all brands of MH's....qite possibly they are interchangeable as most inbourds and stern drives are altered auto motors....I will look for an 800 number...jem

Welcome to the teflex club.
Operating temp on my gauge shows 160 degrees. I took a laser heat sensor and found that it means 180 degrees.
Since I know that I am not very motivated to change the gauge.
My real operating temperatures are 180-200, which is where they should be.

is the error in the guage or the sensor??? i replaced the sensor and checked mine and it is now almost on the mark with the laser temp guage. if you have a 195 thermostat it has to show almost 200 to 210 if not the thermostat is not working. does that not make sence.
i played with my system this summer and i was confused . with thermostat i was seeing 200 to 220. with out the thermostat it never got over 180. i was considering not putting the thermostat back in the system. however i did and used a jug of super cool .
190 to 210 pulling the trail blazer.
i dont think i would replace the guage if knew what the error is. we drive cars with idiot lights . rather have a guage be it right or wrong it says more than a light. most time when the light comes on you just blew a engine. lol

Al,
I agree, whats the difference anyways.
Get to know your engines normal operating temperatures and note the adverse conditions. The sensor is only a 1 point reference. Take a laser heat sensor and you will freak, as you know. 500 degrees at the exhaust. Wow. Radiator 180, thermostat housing 195, cylinder heads 220, carburetor 170, my god the fuel is going to blow.
All we used to have is a needle with a red field which said "HOT"

Al is right on the mark.....finally got a response from an old buddy at the factory and he said if the guage works but gives the wrong reading, it is undoubtably the sender end that is munged up....jem

The factory response said they needed the guage model number....as far as locations to buy I'll leave that to Al for advice.

i got mine from autozone. it was probably all luck that they matched. be careful and dont mar the new sensor if it isnt an improvement take it back. they are not that expensive. if i doesnt improve the problem dont eat it. got the 2 lb gas filter installed today. lol
