Power Steering Overflow...

Hi Guys -

I just had the steering gear box replaced and now my brakes are virtually gone and no power steering. The power steering pump was making a noise before I took it in to have the gearbox replaced.

After getting it back I checked the fluid, it was a bit low so I put some in. Well, now the fill bottle is overflowing and when I mean overflowing I mean really overflowing as if it's being pump out or something. If perhaps the shop hooked up the steering gear lines backwards by accident would that cause this? Or is this a typical thing that happens when a power steering pump fails?

Cheers,
Allen

Allen, you definitely have an interesting problem there. I don't have a clue what could be causing it but when you find the solution definitely let us know.

if the pump was making noise you probably burned it out.I had to replace mine in a 1977 argosy24.the pumps are very high pressure pumps. a lot higher than a pickup truck and car. you probly got some trash in the valve in the pump. you can not put the hoses on backwards. one hose is high pressure with a fitting and the other is a low pressure clamp on. took 2 weeks to find one about $80.00 pm me and I'll try to find the address where I got mine,I have the old pump in the box it was shipped in so it'll have the address.

Pump problems

Hi Bob -

Thanks for letting me know about the lines. I didn't think they could be on backwards but it was just really odd for it to pump out like that. I actually found one at Advance but had to order it. It won't be here until the 24th. I'm in need of a belt changing anyway so I'll just have all that done at one go.

Did you change yours yourself? If so was it hard? It's in a weird spot to get to.

Brad
I'll keep you posted about the situation. It seems when you start messing with one thing something else starts to go huh?

Cheers,
Allen
