Need an AC bracket for a 454 bb
Hi folks - well we’re still trying to get our 84 toaster Mh back home after we purchased it a few months back. We got 15 miles up the road and over heated, died(ish) and after a few hours cooling down managed to get to a repair shop. Been there now for 2 months.
After mucha-do, seems there’s a lot of work needed but they re-cored the radiator which has hopefully solved to heating issue. The next problem is a broken AC bracket. It looks as tho’ its been welded before but I’m hoping to send them one to fit directly.... so I can get the beast home
Any ideas where I might find one?
Cheers and thx -
Pete

Welcome! I think I can see some of the digits of a stamped part number in one of your pictures. If you can get the whole number, try googling it.

I may have one of those. I dismantled a 1986 345 and the one I removed from the engine looks similar to yours. I'll check when I get home tonight.

454 BB Air Conditioner Brackets
Vintage Air probably has one that will work, if you Google 454 Chevy BB air conditioner bracket, any number of them come up on the search. I have used a/c brackets from Vintage Air for several other engines, and they are very robust and well made.

Nope, darn it... thanks for looking tho'
The one I need seems to be a bit unusual/different than the plethora online in that its main plates are spaced a few inches apart... two plates separated by a few inches all in one casting. thanks for looking!!

Looks more like one of these

Hard to tell if the required holes are in the right place, if they are nothing says it has to be one piece. If nothing else is on that belt can you just zip tie the compressor out of the way to get it home?

My apologies, I forgot to look last night. It was a rough day at work and it totally slipped my mind by the time I got home. I WILL check tonight.

Sorry, mine is different. Part # C4284.1
The 86 motor it came from had the hybrid v-belt for the power steering, AC pump, water pump and crank. It used a serpentine belt for the alternator, smog pump, water pump and crank.

Not quite the same as mine but it's possible the brackets are now welded steal rather than an alloy casting. A bit hard to see (pg 70 of the catalogue) but I'll follow up and see what they say - thanks for the heads up.
Anyone think this is an Airstream special part or a common bracket?

Thanks for taking a look, I certainly appreciate it. These cast items are few an far between on the web, but it's possible the newer, or repro, versions are welds steel rather than cast alloy.
Next steps when I get her home is fix the AC systems, floor... tho' I have a feeling this is going to be a big job.
This might seem a bit over the top (I'm beginning to think so) but we're selling our place in a lovely gated subdivision with a rather strict housing association.. that said 'no way' to building a garage for the shinytoaster. We have 2 area and no once could have seem the back of the property (the layout) - but apparently the precedent risk was too much.
So, brought a house down the road.. not as nice but has 5 acres and no HA... buried in the forest as well So, saving pennies to build a workshop for the cars and toaster...where no one can say my lawn is an inch above regulation....
Cheers-
Pete

Good move, you will not regret it. When we were looking to move 10 years ago, the criteria was a shop and plenty of room for the Aluminum. I lucked out, it even came with a nice house

Continuing AC bracket - update
Just to finish this off - the mechanic had the bracket welded back up (what I suggested 6 months ago) and we drove her home a 2 weeks ago (today). An eventful trip back home.. a 2 hour trip took 7 + hours... but we got there!! .. as noted by others it's now my second baptism into the vintage RV world
Wrote a post with a few details - posted last week.
Thanks again !

Well - this is a bit late
The move went well, very happy with the house. RV is now parked out back waiting for a 40x60 barn to be built. The materials are all here, just waiting on the permits. Had a new metal roof go on last week and a 15kW solar system next week. Hopefully enough juice to run a shop as well. Thinking a 100 amp line should do it.
