Maybe fuel pump ???

Just purchased last month 03 Landyacht,
Drove it home to PA from Miami,
Ran great, nice trip home.
Now, omw home this past weekend, it started to fire
but then not start as I turn the key.
It did it intermitten a couple of times that I stopped.
Then I stopped to refuel and it took 10-12 attempts turning the key until it finally started.
I made it home, but now I'm a bit concerned
Any thoughts ?
Does anyone know do I have access to fuel pump & filters ?

At 20 yr old motorhome…is there a maintenance record?

Since it is new to you, I would plan to change all filters, fluids, and check all electrical ground for corrosion

I bet you have an in-tank fuel pump, so you may be dropping the tank. Maybe try disconnect a fuel line and turn key to on. You can verify if there is good gas flow

Lots of things could be at play here if it's fuel related, ranging from clogged fuel filter to failing fuel pump and everything in between. Could also be a problem with water in the tank.

First thing I'd check is the filter. Once that's changed, you can pull a fuel line at the engine and check for proper fuel flow to see if that's the issue. Then go from there - if there is proper flow then you can concentrate on engine related problems, and if not then figure out what's stopping it.

Welcome Aboard

Are we assuming that it was turning over and not starting...are all the starter, starter solenoid and battery connections clean and secure?
Is the system charging a good battery?

I would also recommend changing the exposed fuel filter along with a COMPLEAT tune-up.

There is a 'sock' filter on the fuel pump in the tank that can collapse if compromised and cause intermittent stalling, hard start, loss of power.

If you don't know the history I would start from scratch and replace the tank pump.

check fuel pump pressure and control module
check fuel line for pinhole rust
check fuel line for proper routing
check fuel press reg
check tank for excessive rust or water content in fuel (common when sitting)
check injectors and ECU for proper firing cycles
check engine fans
check engine temp, intake air temp, intake air flow, oil pressure, and knock sensors
check starter and ground cables (hot weak starters will not start an engine)
check all filters
check battery voltage during cranking many ECUs will not work properly below 11V
check trans sensors showing proper park/neut position when parked
check trans lockup is not on continuously

if you don't have access to an engine scan tool it could be worth taking it to the dealer for whichever type drivetrain you have and pulling the codes there should be a history in the
ECU map showing the problems

I had a intermittent issue like that. Spent a grand on dropping tank and replacing pump. turn out to be a wire in the harness from the computer to the fuel tank had gotten brittle. $200.

As Robert mentioned - learn terms & use them correctly .

Engine turns over = starter system works .

Engine fires [ one or more cylinders ] .

After that what indicates to you to look at fuel system ?

Many faults can have the same / similar symptoms .

Guessing - while asking for info - typically gets others to go down the wrong
" rabbit hole " .

The best way to ask questions about almost anything - that does not work as expected - is to not add your guesses to a question - just say what does / or does not function as normal - many aurguments between service centers are following someones lead - that does not know - making for both being at fault
;(

What happens once you get it started? Does it run normally, or does it sputter when under load? If it runs fine once started but has difficulty starting after it's sat hot for a short time, it could be a vapor lock issue. Assuming that it's a chevy P30 based motorhome with a 454 TBI engine. There's a "hot fuel module" that is designed to help purge vapor lock. GM added as a "fix" for just this problem. Normally the fuel pump will only prime the system for about 2 seconds when starting the engine. The hot fuel module will keep the pump running for 20 seconds while the key is turned on. The modules are known to fail. This leaves you with only the standard 2 second prime.
