Looks like alternator time
Went to the races last week and, to my surprise, it looks like there's going to be a new alternator in my future. After a little over an hour of driving, I found that the voltage on the ole battery was dropping down to about 12.31v. Noticed a slower than normal starter once I arrived at the camp site. Checked battery and found no charging. Voltage dropped once I started the engine. Checked the isolator and found only 1.5V on the alternator input post.
Any ideas on what costs to expect on this one? DIY job and shop charge cost.
Any suggestions on a specific alternator? Not planning on doing any significant wiring changes. New v/s rebuilt alternator? Was thinking of a new AC Delco 105A alternator.
Seems like something happens every year. Last year it was two cracked exhaust manifolds and 6 broken exhaust studs.

Julius,
I think your plan to not radically change things is a good idea. I'm not a fan of rebuilt alternators and starters but it seems it is hard to find "new" vs rebuilt. If you can find a new 105 go for it.
It's a good thing your voltage didn't drop to low while driving that would have sucked!
Look at it this way, if things didn't break you wouldn't have anything to do
Brad

I installed the new 105 ACD alternator in the Zephyr, less than a 100 bucks before shipping and tax. ACDELCO 3351039
Should be the same for your coach.

Two bolts, one plug and the main feed wire. Disconnect the engine battery first.
If your dog house is about the same as the classics, you will have good access to it.
If the saddle connector is still on the feed from the plug, I would recommend making a more secure connection.

Turns out not to be a bad alternator. The source of the problem was indeed bad connections on the saddle connector feeder lines and one at the fuse box. Should have everything back in working order soon.
Since I already had it, I decided to go ahead and install the new alternator and replace the 5-year-old battery as well.

If you do this job do not forget to remove the bracket form the old one. New one will not come with one.
