Ignition system advice needed

Hi everyone

I have decided to upgrade my ignition system
I wanted to use Jacobs RV unit but two the parts are not available athis time for our 85 325. What is not available is the direct plug in wiring harness and the internal HEI cap adapter.
It has been suggest by one supplier to replace the distributor and eliminate the need for these parts the other suggestion was to use a MSD kit.
when I looked the MSD site I was lost immediately.

In the past I had a Jacobs system on a 80's 454 pace arrow and like the system very much.

It seems since Jacob's was bought out it is now more difficult to source all the parts neccessary

any suggestions about what to use from MSD

Thanks in advance

Hello I would say MSD and MAllory are great ignitions and I use MSD In drag race application Also Have a Mallary In my sons street rod. Both are great. I however would reccomend talking to tech at either company instead of Summit Racing or Jegs sometimes I have found you get people that know more about you rig then you do, that always bothered me. Tech line will give you the info you need to make an good decision. You can go to MSD website
or Mallary and get numbers and look at products. Once you are sure what you want, Then go to Summit or Jegs for the purchase. I use the one with the best return policy ussually Summit Racing, for me. I hope this helps.
One thing also Most after market ignitions have a hotter spark the last longer. Which intern will increase power.
Good Luck

On a 1991 AS 350 (Chevy 454) I have installed a MSD ignition and coil, and, so far, have no complaint. Have as yet seen no reason to install a new distributor, as the old one works OK. Have less than 1000K on the new equipment.

Hello rdm ,go check older threads that deal with ralleys MSD install ,or PM
to him on it .MSD ignitions are excellent choices and perform great .I have
an MSD system on my 68 IH travelall and my service truck ( chevy 1 ton)
The website is confusing ,but rally has done the mods you will be seeking ,
with road test results to go with it .Jacobs is also a very good system .
MSD has everything available youll need .
