Great that you found an answer. Can you keep us informed over the next few weeks or so, so that we can find out how the starting fix works? It would be good hear about hot and cold starting and if the MAP fixed everything!!

sure will, it has been consistently starting and the injectors are firing as intended since I replace the MAP sensor.

The lower pressure Walpro-GSL395 arrived and I installed it today. The higher pressures GSL392, I purchased as a spare, sold within hours on Ebay. My plan is to keep the one I removed as a spare.
When I checked the number on the one i removed it said GSL-395, what a surprise. So Brad gave me the correct number after all, and i screwed up when I purchased a spare. Just please don't tell Brad, I will never hear the end of this, ever!
The puzzling thing of course is why did I get 40PSI line pressure when I connected the fuel pressure gauge ? It may be best to leave good enough alone and enjoy a beautiful cold start.

Hi Peter - was GSL-395 marked on the pump you removed from inside the tank or were you replacing an old external pump which carried that marking?

So, I'm not quite as senile as I've been thinking I am....
Makes me wonder if the pump always put out 40 psi. What pressure is the new pump providing?

Peter and I talked about that last night. My guess is it was 40 psi since it wasn't connected to a regulator, the fuel line was plugged by the gauge. Probably rated for 15psi continuous when regulated, if plugged it will build up to 40, but probably burn out if left like that

The only way to accurately read fuel pressure is to have the gauge T-ed in line with the input to the throttle body. The regulator in the throttle body will keep the fuel pressure constant and the remaining fuel will be returned to the tank. By terminating the fuel line with the gauge you're seeing more pressure than would be normal.

Thanks, that answers that question.
I just finished rebuilding the throttle body, including new injectors. Installing the pressure regulator diaphragm is a tricky job with so much pressure on the internal spring. Also found a open vacuum port in the front of the throttle body. I am almost certain the IAC (Idle Air valve) on the throttle body was not working properly either.
Summary, IAC, TPS (replaced that earlier) and MAP sensor all were defective.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who made a contribution trying to find the cause of my cold start issue. I learned a tremendous amount about the TBI Model 220 used in the early 90's

A pretty complete video about rebuilding the throttle body. Only thing I would add, is to be careful using a razor blade cleaning up the old gasket and I recommend using thread lock and an inch/pound torque wrench to set the screws.

Peter, do you have a permanently installed fuel pressure gauge now?

Not yet, I just received the inline adapter for the sending unit I need to install. I almost ordered the wrong 100 psi gauge in the beginning of this saga.

What gauge did you order?

Have not ordered it yet. No VDO's in black to match mine. Any suggestions for 2 " non mechanical?

I ended up with this Maxtow 100 PSI fuel pressure gauge. I couldn't find anything less than that. My guess is most systems now run higher fuel pressures so a 100 psi gauge makes sense.

Update #36 on the cold start issue:
Engine sat for 2 days, temp right at 32F, fired up on the first crank!
Isn't it nice if a fix actually works more than once
