gas tank sensor
i have spent most of this day looking for a gas tank sensor. not a 90 ohm sensor to be had. could someone point me to a source . my old one is about wore out. i took contact cleaner to it and it tracks some what . but not perfect. i plan to put the tank back on tomorrow, but i would pull the tank and put a new sensor on later if i can find one. lol

Dealers, Napa, junk yard. As long as it was 0-90 you could cut and weld the good parts on to your old mount.

couldnt find a 0 to 90 ohm sensor and yes i had already planned to do some red neck engineering. picked up the filler hose this am and installed the tank . and ill be diped in s0-478 i pinched the engine fuel hose some how. let the tank back down and repositioned the fuel line hose and all s well . put 24 gals of gas and tryed the generator snake bit again the generator hose is pinched . we went up and down with the tank and walla cut the fill hose. now we are almost back to step one. tank drained .
going to drop tank and do some measuring and try to figure where the fuel lines are getting pinched. and also another trip to the parts place.
it looked so simple. and i had help screwing this one up. try try try again is about the best i can do sometimes.

Sorry about your troubles, Al, but thanx for posting them. I feel a lot better now.
When I first got my MH, I always could smell gasoline in the rear. Like some dumb idiot I went to the gas station and filled up. Well, the gas was pouring out all the way back to house and down my driveway. Now I had 80 gals of fuel to get rid off before being able to remove the tank. It turned out to be a missing nut on top of the tank at one of the fittings.
I made my new fuel lines real long and was able to keep an eye on them with a mirror during installation.

Would it make sense to have some steel lines bent to follow the curves/angles that need to be followed and attach them with short sections of hose?

Block your tank solid with the mh sitting on the ground. Loosen the mounts and jack the mh up enough to get at the top.

You are a brave man, John.
Just to find out that the MH has to be raised 1' or more to be able get up above the tank because of some frame cross beams.

well it is raining now so dont look like i will be playing with the tank. i plan to drop the tank and do some measuring and tape the lines to the top of the tank. it has four lines .
1. vent
2.return from fuel pump
3. fuel line to fuel pump
4. fuel line to generator
at present the line to the gen set is pinched. and the fill pipe is cut.
if it dries off today im going to drop the tank and figure out where the lines have to be and tape them to the top of the tank. you cant see a thing after the tank is in place. it is jamed to the floor with two strips of ply wood as spacers got 1 inch space to put the lines and that is more than enough . im not seeing something. when i drop the tank i will know where the spacers are hitting on the tank. im going to measure and then draw chalk lines .
peter
i only had 24 gals in the tank i filled all of my vehicles up and still had 12 gals in gas cans. and that is all i will be putting in when i get it reinstalled . i plan to put 20 lbs of air thru the line and see if i can hear it in the tank. and that is how i plan to check the lines.no gas in the tank until im sure they are not pinched.

Put air in the tank and blow the lines, that way if there is any crud left in them it won't end up back in the tank.

where did you get a 80 gal tank??? went to mr good wrench and he told me to try a junk yard as the trash i had in my hand wasnt GM . well he is right the tank has the airstream sticker on it . they say they put a 60 gal tank on the motor home but the stickes says 58 gals.
re read some of the post cant lower the tank straight down the fill pipe and over flow hose go thru the frame rail. it comes down at a angle after the fill hose is attached. has a large frame cross piece in the rear where the hoses are. that blocks any view of the hoses. might be 1/2 inch by the frame and the air bag crap blocks the front.

Al,
Is your tank in a place where you can get to the fill hose from the inside. Both of mine have been under the front couch. There is an access cover that the hose runs thru that is accessable from inside. This may help in the routing and stop the pinching of the fill hose.

my tank is in the rear no acess holes in the floor . my tank has to be installed at a angle as the filler hoses are on the side of the tank they just about clear the frame rail would have been nice if they stuck out a little past the rail so you could install the hoses with the tank in place. just about have to have this thing coated with ky jelly to get in the hole.

Forgot all about the filler neck. Mine had to be dropped and reinstalled at an angle as well
But what is 640 pounds of fuel and 80 pounds of tank for a guy with big jacks.
Al, it seems that the 80 gal fuel tank was an aftermarket addition. The 79's came with a 50 gal fuel tank. There was a sticker of the manufacturer, but it is in a location that I hope to never see again.

yes the label was not where you could see it. id like to forget i have seen it. and hope not to see it again.
called a couple of airstream mechanics and told them what was happening with the fuel lines and i wasnt saying anything that they didnt already know. seems the lines are a bear to get in just the right spot. they have the same problems.
to put the filler hose on you feed it thru the frame rail and attach with the tank raised at a angle . then you can jack the tank into position. it is not very difficult after you get the jack in the right position. and the tank is empty. most folks dont think gas weight a lot 24x8=192 lbs plus the tank is close to 100 . that can wear an old man out. quick . lol

To heck with the jacks, I am glad I have a saddle mount tank. Straight up and down, just cut the hoses a foot too long and thread them through the frame rail. The filler hose is a little nasty, but just because it is so stiff. But then I will look like a rear ended Pinto if I ever get hit in the right side.

going to take a picture and post of the label on the gas tank. i just posted at another thread about the tank not being gm . napa has a guage and sensor that could be installed to replace the 90 ohm sensor . also a boat supply has a sensor but not 90 ohm. i plan to talk to the farm tracktor places and see if the might have something . the omish work at jackson center and they may hay gone to the tractor supply for parts.
it is in a farm area.
