Carb Fuel Filter

I have a 1989 370LE with a Ford 460 engine. The Gilling manual, which covers the fuel system, clearly shows and discusses a fuel filter at the carb. There is also one towards the rear of the coach identical to the Chevrolet C30 chassis. I've got that one, but when I went to remove the old filter from the carb, the place had only the spring and a washer (which are shown along with the filter in the Gillig manual), but no filter . NAPA's shortest paper type filter is too long to fit, and they haven't been able to help. The Gillig manual doesn't give me a manufacturer (although the carb is labeled "Motocraft by Holley") or part number for this filter. Can anyone help me with this? The diagram isn't very clear, but the filter it shows looks like the early in-line types that were like an aerator stone. It's held in place by a spring apparently, which I have. I'd appreciate any ideas as to how I can determine what filter goes in there.

Tim, is there a rubber hose going into a screw-in filter mounted directly on the carb? If there is, that is your filter. I can get you the NAPA part number Monday when I go back in to work.

Thanks so much. Fortunately, I finally found out the correct filter by going on NAPA's web site. It's not one of those screw-in filters, nor one of the cartridge type paper element. It turned out to be one of those stone aerator types I was familiar with 40 years ago. I found a diagram in the Gillig manual which appeared to show that type, went to the NAPA web site and plugged in the last year Ford produced a carbed 350 truck (1985) with a 460 engine, discovered it had a Holley carb just like my 370, looked up the filter for that setup, and BINGO - that was it! Amazing what a detective one has to be with these MoHos . Anyway, I now have part numbers for all the routine maintenance items, and am in the process of replacing them all. Some looked OK, some totally worn out (probably 17 years old), and some actually missing (carb fuel filter). Sad part is that my brother had paid several truck shops (big $ ) to do all this routine maintenance and much of it had not been done. He had "complete tuneups" done 3 times in the 4 years he owned the coach. Hate to see an "incomplete" tuneup .
