Banks Airfilter wont fit...

When I got my 345 last week, somewhere in its past the Banks Airfilter top had been removed and replaced with a Edelbrock Pancake filter.

I am not happy with this unit. It is not good fro my smog test, pulls in hot air only, and is noisy!
I found the Banks filter top in the storage, so i tried to fit it....
I had problems!
From what I know, it should mount on the OE filter base, but when I tried it fouled the throttle linkage...
So, first question is about the carb... is this a stock unit?

No, it is an Edelbrock carb. The good news is that Edelbrock makes good stuff. The carbs are very nice, an updated version of the old Carter AFB.

Seems like I remember seeing some kind of spacer between the carb and air cleaner in some truck applications, but couldn't locate anything when I looked before my last post. I did find a ½" spacer at Summit Racing just now, and they say other sized are available. At only $2.88 for the ½" one, it is something to consider.

The Banks air cleaner is something with which I am completely unfamiliar. I have been around Edelbrock and Carter carbs, as well as the Quadrajet carbs that were original equipment on so many GM products. My experience has been that factory air cleaners would fit after switching to the Edelbrocks, but I have no idea what the Banks even looks like. I've never even seen a photo of one and don't know what makes them "special," but now I am curious too. Maybe someone who has one of those can be of more help.

The Banks Airfilter is just a tall cast aluminum top case, with a K&N filter from what I can see. It uses the original GM BBC lower filter case...
Here is a link to the Installation PDF...
http://assets.bankspower.com/manuals...340-v2-web.pdf

I will order a spacer, and see if that works. Then I have to figure out the emissions vacuum pipes, on the case.
The are 2 pipes that I am unsure where they go..
